Kapok fly?

Recommended Posts

Kapok is some kind of plant fiber that they used in life jackets years ago. Not hard to find if you google it. Basically a gut bug, but it does work. Drove through Bennett and it looked to crowded, really mossy, with lots of small fish. Not much catching going on. Decided to take the girls up river to fish for bass & goggle eyes instead. Worked out well. The girls caught fish and had fun.no crowd.

What kinda shape was the river in Gavin?? I started to head over there today because of the crowds too. But I figured with the heavy rain this morning it would've been too high.

Water was fine. Maybe 2-3' of vis w/o my polarized on. Was kinda low on my float Friday but could see 3-4' easy. Bass was good, did not fish trout. Stayed at MVO. Nice to have a full RV hookup, but the sites are too close. Glad to have friends as your neighbors.

There is not enough food to sustain the number of trout they stock in a stream that size. That is why they are eating guts and anything else they can find. IMO, I think a person with the right presentation can catch as many as they want on a natural nymph pattern. No matter purist or a guy that fishes over fish carcasses, i try to remember we all still love to just catch fish. Some have not been lucky enough to have been shown other ways of catching them, but it is still fishing relative to ones perception.

Also, have any of you guys had fish literally head but your boot trying to get you to move your foot to kick up more food? I have had them hit my shin and just figured that was what they were doing. Curious about this.

Yes, just like a bunch of hogs. They call it "shuffling", just ask upstream he is a master. Do a quick 2 step and high stick your nymph just below where your standing!!

Didn't have that problem at Montauk!!
