Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 3, 2015 Root Admin Posted June 3, 2015 It's unbelievable how good fishing is here on the lake right now. Drifting a scud on the bottom from Fall Creek to Short Creek is as good as it gets. And big fish... browns and rainbows. Our trout are packed full of scuds too. Steve Dickey pointed out that the trout smell different. They smell like warm water fish but stronger. The scuds they're eating are turning them rainbow colors so fast, we're not seeing hardly any gray stockers right now. Yesterday morning I made one drift from FC to SC and caught 15, 1 brown. Had several others pull off on the way to the boat. And that drift is a fast one right now! Caught this morning - Steve Youngblood from Kirksville, MO. Went out with Duane. Caught on a #12 gray scud right at Short Creek. am4mu 1
Quillback Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That clear box deal is great for fish pics. Nice brown!
Seth Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I love hearing this since I am coming down for a quick trip this weekend with my parents. They are going to be staying at Lazy Valley for their annual June trip. I'll have to swing by and pick up some 1/8oz jigs so I'll try to run down to the dock and say hello if you're around.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 3, 2015 Author Root Admin Posted June 3, 2015 Scuds, man... scuds! Bigger the better. Gray. Seth 1
Mitch f Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 That clear box deal is great for fish pics. Nice brown! Yes, I really like that idea, plus keeps people from long arming them. Gives you a better look at the fish. But how big of a box do you build?? "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Seth Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Scuds, man... scuds! Bigger the better. Gray. I tied up a half dozen tan, grey and orange scuds as well as some brown and red san juans. All I had was some #14 tmc200 hooks so hopefully that is big enough. If not, I will have to come raid your shop for some bigger hooks when I get down there.
duckydoty Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Size 10 and 12 are working the best right now. I would even go with a size 8 if you can get them. Caught quite a few this morning in brown and grey pheasant tails also. Pretty much anything big and buggy. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. JestersHK Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Looks like any hope of Wade fishing is going to be out for my trip down next week? Anywhere you can wade at further down? At least the fish are biting though. That's a beautiful Brown there and love that fish box. Thanks,
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 4, 2015 Author Root Admin Posted June 4, 2015 No place to wade. 15k cfs - you have a little space at outlet #1 and 2 spots at outlet #2.
JestersHK Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Thanks Phil, Heading down Sunday for the week. Will stop in for sure (would love to get my hands on some of those sculpin jigs) and working on the details with my brother-in-law on what day or days we want to rent a boat. Thanks again for all the updates! Helps us northern guys out when it comes to planning. JestersHK
