Quillback Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Maybe they should check out the Mo Conservation page on the note from the health department on eating our bass out of Tablerock lake. Quillback posted this advisory back in 2012 along with comments from Bill on the warning on consuming Bass.. It only applies to black bass. This from the MDC website: " Lab testing done by the Missouri food safety commission has found that black bass over 15" caught from Table Rock lake, contain unacceptable high levels of Mercury, Lead, Asbestos, and chloride. Lab rats, upon being fed small portions of Table Rock origin black bass, developed serious cancerous tumors and expired at an early age. The state of Missouri strongly recommends that all black bass caught in Table Rock lake be immediately returned unharmed to the lake, and should not be used as food by humans or their pets. Consumption of black bass from Table Rock lake could result in serious health issues or even death." Of course a person probably would have to eat several lbs before any ill effects maybe?? But it is a wonder that there is no signage to inform the public of this.. Remember there's Karma to contend with..... Just to set the record straight, I was joking around when I posted that. Ranger Z22 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 The keeping of a few fish is one thing, but this seems all keeper bass went into the livewell and were filleted for supper.. I am a true believer you can hurt this resource if this type of behavior is continued, and then we will hear, Table Rock sure isn't like it use to be. This could be a long drawn out post, and I will stop at that, I am agree with Champ, not sorry for posting this, I live here and that resource is very valuable to me Muddy Water, dtrs5kprs, magicwormman and 3 others 6
mjk86 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Sorry rick....i guess its better to just not post ur report. Thanks everyone else for defeating the purpose of this website.
Rickf Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 This thread has got out of control, once a year I take a friend fishing to catch enough for a fish fry. This was only nine of about thirty KB we caught and I did keep the walleye for my own freezer. The reason I mentioned the fish having eggs is I would have thought the fish would have been done by now. I guess a person should go to Wallmart to get fish for a fish fry. Hunter91 1
Riverwhy Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Congratulations on the fish. I love to see good sportsmen who eat what they catch.
GNSfishing Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Just to set the record straight, I was joking around when I posted that. But there is a posting on the MO Conservation by the health department on the contamination of our fish here in the state with type of contamination per length and species in our waters...Here's the link.. http://health.mo.gov/living/environment/fishadvisory/pdf/fishadvisory.pdf
GNSfishing Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 i get the catch and release that most are wanting, but sometimes you need to look at it from a different perspective. what about those that love to hunt trophies of other species such as walleye and cats??? do you not think it might be just as offensive to some every time you eat a walleye, cat, or other species?? i am one that has never liked bed fishing to be allowed in tournaments. let them spawn. in fact, it would be a great idea to divide the lake into sections, and have a closed cove policy on a rotating basis for each section for the month of may. might help with the crappie population also. all of you crappie eaters could quit eating all of them you catch on the upper end of the lake for a year or two so we could get a few back in the lake. . bo It has been a few years back but at that time it was very hard to catch crappie around Cape Fair and then the MDC placed a 10" length limit on crappie and the fishery has came back great. Of course the brush piles that have been placed in the lake has helped also. As the lake has aged the natural cover has disappeared. I remember Piney Creek having a maze of cedars on the left side going in and large trees on the right side. Some of whats left is just under the surface with a few showing above.

I don't think most of us would get bunched up by a person keeping a fish or two for dinner that evening. The difference is that 1960's looking stringer shot. No way that was going to be well received. I had heard the same this week about the eggs. Likely means we did not get a good spawn this spring. Even more reason not to slice up a bunch of bass. Members IdleTime Posted June 5, 2015 Members Posted June 5, 2015 As a long time follower of this forum and first time post. I really enjoy the posts and individual experiences with family and friends. I only get to fish a couple of times each year and with each opportunity I spend my time and money at Table Rock Lake. I put thousands of dollars into the local economy each trip and have come home many times without ever catching a fish let alone a keeper. Now you may think that is because too many folks keep big stringers but facts are that i didn't know how to fish. I hired "local" guides to help me understand what I was doing wrong and now have the ability to go out and have a good chance at catching a few fish each day. In the event I get lucky enough to catch a stringer like Rickf I would be proud of my accomplishments, keep and take pictures as he did. That said if I was able to fish multiple times a month or week then I too would be a catch and release guy though would still keep enough for dinner staying within MDC regulations. Congratulations Rickf for a great report and truly great day of fishing and "catching". I enjoy your pictures and success as most normal (couple trips a year) fishermen/women (my experience) aren't that successful. I assumed the purpose of this forum was to give everyone an opportunity to share their experiences (you know what they say about assumed) and hadn't realized you could also be chastised with opinions to spoil the experience. I have read many posts with envy about catching 30 - 60 or more fish a day not realizing what I would become if I was that fortunate.
