Terrierman Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 It still amazes me that the app that shuts phones down while moving above a certain speed isn't mandatory or at least a lot more widely used.

I agree if their is such an app..... I still think as long as a vehicle is turned on/running the wireless phone frequencies should be jammed inside any vehicle...period... As long as people think that they can do with no repercussions they will...or that they are superman and can multi task like a computer but your computer will crash and it only takes that one time to erase or ruin a life yours or that other person..

There are at least five apps out to disable phone/disable texting while driving.
Champ188 Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I can see/support an app to disable texting while driving. But I have hands-free Bluetooth with voice-activated dialing in my truck that allows me to have a phone conversation without taking my eyes off the road. It's no different than talking to a passenger. The control buttons are even on the steering wheel. I don't want my phone disabled so that I'm unable to use a safe feature of my truck.
GNSfishing Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Then the only problem is getting people to volunteer to use them and that's like having a blizzard in 100 degree weather........ As long as it is a choice it will never happen..

There are apps that only disable texting while driving. Hands free is safer than having to handle the phone. Honesty compels me to admit that I cannot count the times I've missed a turn because I was on the phone though. I bet you have too. And if not, then kudos. So there is still an element of distracted driving.
ness Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 We've got all our cars outfitted with bluetooth/hands free. Couple that with Siri and I think you're quite a bit safer. John
Flysmallie Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 As long as it is a choice it will never happen.. It will never happen period. Wearing a seatbelt is a law and I still don't see everyone wearing them. Â Â

Codywskeeter1521 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I'm a cdl truck driver. The company I drive for put camera's in every truck. This is a 190 plus fleet local. To cut down on the talking/texting on the phone. The statistics are there to prove that talking and or texting will more then likely result is a wreck it might not be tomorrow or in 20 years but it will happen. These camera's only go off when u hit the rumble strips or a curb. Even a hard turn will cause them to go off. but they have cut the accidents down greatly. I can promise you that these not one text or call unless it's a emergency worth my job. I know first hand after driving for 6 years and seeing the wrecks and life lose on the open road for careless driving why take the chance? I'm not going to sit here and say I've never texted or made a call without my hands free device in Mt personal vehicles. but I guess it's for each there own. Guess it's like drinking and driving. That's why we live in the land of the free and make our own choices . Champ188 and ness 2
