How familiar are you with the 10xd. I'm just getting my feet wet in the deep crank thing and 6xd is my standard at this point.

I like it. I have always thrown DD22's and the 10XD pulls a little harder but it's not that big of a deal to me. It also runs true, casts further, has a steep dive angle to where it reaches depth quickly and is easy to bump it along the bottom. I 'm a fan...except for the pricetag for an extra 1 oz of plastic than a 6XD or DD22. I'm throwing mine on a 7'10 MH BPS Crankin' Stick with a Lew's 5.4:1 on 12lb Seaguar Red Label and it does pretty well on that setup. I thought the 12# might be a little light but it's fine. Most guys are throwing them on 14#. Just let the rod load with the weight of the bait and you can chuck it a mile.

Good old big C-Rig and FB jig would work on those places too. There are some other cranks that might get down a little easier, but not any better on the wallet.

Anything that touches 25+ feet is going to be like $12-15 bucks a pop. Manns 30+, LC SKT Mag's and others are all 15-25 bucks. I heard that the Skeet Magnum deep cranks sucked so I didn't get any. But your right the 3/4oz FB Jig is also on the deck where I am flinging the deep crankers.

And a big spoon. Those big feather jigs might be worth a look too. Going to be very similar conditions to when the PAA was here in 2011 and it was swimbaits and big worms carrying the day.

I have a 5" big spoon on the deck as well. Have thought about getting a couple of those big hair/feather Preacher Jigs that guys on Kentucky Lake like throwing on the ledges and whatnot but just haven't picked any up to try. So much tackle...so little time.

Yeah, I hear you. It's tough to do when you are out once or twice a week. It can take a day to figure stuff out, and then it's time to go home.

Get some swimbait heads or big dart heads and make them. Way cheaper.

Thanks for the heads up on the 10xd. When I get some confidence I'll sell a kidney and buy some.

Now about the spoon lol. How much have you used it? It's another intriguing bait to me that I haven't tried.

I'll likely end up making some hair jigs. I need to research on what exact types of hair and how much etc.

Big 10-4 on the big worm.

I've been hopping a regular 3/4oz chrome spoon on roll offs for years, along with the Jet type spoons, a silver buddy, and occasionally a tailspin. Mostly in the fall, but no reason it shouldn't work now.

Only caveat is that when we were just down, the fish did not seem to understand they were supposed to duck the current on the downstream side of points and humps. That was with the 2 generators and the gates open, and Beaver running, quite a bit of flow. Better ones were on the sides that should have had all the flow running on them. At a guess, they were using big rocks, maybe stumps, to break the flow.
