Pepe Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I have a 5" big spoon on the deck as well. Have thought about getting a couple of those big hair/feather Preacher Jigs that guys on Kentucky Lake like throwing on the ledges and whatnot but just haven't picked any up to try. So much tackle...so little time. We fished mon-yesterday this week and had best luck with those two baits, Spots & LM abkeenan 1
abkeenan Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 We fished mon-yesterday this week and had best luck with those two baits, Spots & LM Good to hear you had success on those two baits. When Phil posted the generation schedule/plan early this week I thought to myself that the lake would set up well for both of those baits and the big cranker with all the current that will come from the draw down/release of water. Best fishing around the dam is ALWAYS when they are pulling water. It's a switch at the facility to open the gates and also a switch on the fish to open their mouths. Also would love to be throwing a SPRO frog up in the bushes. Lotta ways to catch them with the current lake condition. Glad you got on a winning pattern and thanks for sharing.
Members Kayak_Runner Posted June 20, 2015 Members Posted June 20, 2015 Hard for me to make judgements based on what I see, but most of the fish I've caught over the last month appeared to be spawned out. Seen a few fat spots, but hard to know if they are fat because they are full of eggs, or fat from eating well. Could just be an upper end thing. We've pulled a good number of fat spots out of 25-30 ft of water on spoons the last few weekends on main lake and secondary points. Lots of them have been spitting up baitfish at the boat! Last weekend we launched out of cricket creek and fished out at the mouth of Big Cedar Hollow. We got into a good school of white bass for about 30 minutes, we would pull one up and three would follow, really made for a good day! After we lost them we started throwing around a ledge that had fish up on the flat breaking all over on shad. We pulled spots and smallmouths out on spy baits and spoons, it was pretty normal to see them choking up shad at the boat. We moved back into mills branch and caught a few more pitching jigs before we called it quits. joey holder 1
dtrs5kprs Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 You used regular jigging spoons? Yep. This goes back to before folks were ripping those big spoons. Late 90s and forward. Just a 3/4 oz hammered chrome spoon. Traditional jig spoon, bigger than a war eagle or hazie dazie. Caught a bunch of fish around Baxter on it, all those good gravel places up there. I think really anything shiny and metal will work for those fish.

dtrs5kprs Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Interesting. Thank you Most welcome. Just chuck it up and hop it back towards the roll off. Same for the buddy. Tail spin is more like slow rolling or scrubbing something.
Champ188 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 One of the great things about fishing TR is the sheer variety of ways to catch them. You guys are stirring your adrenaline by talking about fishing deep and I'm thinking, why in the world would you fish deep with the water level heading up into people's yards? TR provides a great source of enjoyment for anyone who enjoys fishing in just about any manner they like to do it. We are blessed. Quillback, dtrs5kprs, Dewayne French and 2 others 5

I caught a few on them last year when the fish were up top chasing bait, but haven't had much luck on suspenders with them. Ham 1

Hard to beat the lawn gnome bite, unless it is picnic tables. Might be some better ones deep though. Ham 1
