Members michigan man Posted June 22, 2015 Members Posted June 22, 2015 Great post and great comments everyone! Aggressor, are you talking about the Sunset church in Springfield? We are members of the East Grand congregation and know some of the Sunset members. Aggressor1988long 1
Walcrabass Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Fishingwrench, I have known many people in my life that have had a hard time believing the things in the good book. I like to point out that those "things" are also recorded in historical accounts. Not just something someone made up to have some "miraculous stories" to tell. I don't attend Catholic church but we have this church to thank for sifting through all the chapters and doing the research to prove that they were accurate. Besides all this historical proof........... what about a guy that is definitely dead........ then walks around alive again and has hundreds of witnesses that see him?? After that being said.......well the rest is history..........literally. Walcrabass Aggressor1988long 1

Members MSeery Posted June 22, 2015 Members Posted June 22, 2015 There are several Atheist whom were converted to Christianity... and online you will find several that say they were Christians that converted to Atheism. I have read CS Lewis and some studies written by Lee Strobel. Lee Strobel did a thorough research for truth. Similarly like CS Lewis, Lee Strobel was then converted to Christianity after they conducted their research (decades apart). Please look at his book "The Case for Christ." The scientific evidence and physical evidence is there. It is very interesting to follow along and see. I've completed an Adult Sunday School study on the Case for Christ. If you have witnessed the birth of your children or the majesty of the Rocky Mountains....In my humble opinion, it would be hard NOT to believe in God, the master Creator. 5bites 1
5bites Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Was just telling a member about the Lee Strobel books. Very good stuff. I also mentioned the Star of Bethlehem video. If you guys haven't seen it jump on YouTube and watch it. As far as fishing on Sunday I gave up Sunday tournaments. How could I tell my kids how important a relationship with Jesus is if I'm fishing instead of taking them to church? If we are on vacation or when we stay at the lake over the weekend I do fish on Sunday but under normal circumstances the boat stays put. If we do stay the weekend we try to get back for evening service. You have to consider your example.
fishinwrench Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I appreciate that. Maybe someday in person that would be great. I have done a considerable amount of bible study (cover to cover, not just random snipets of scripture) and I find it flawed terribly. So since all we truly know about God is what is in the bible that leaves me in serious doubt. Religion has a vital place in society no doubt. It makes things easier (tolerable) for folks that can't handle the harsh realitys of life/death, but I'm not sure I can be convinced that any of it is actually true. I have tried really hard because I was raised by Christians and really want to think it is possible, but I grew up to be a free thinker and can't fool myself into truly believing something just because everyone else does, or because it makes the hardest parts of living easier. I can't even get through the first 5 pages of Genesis without feeling like I am reading a fairy tale written by retards. What is there, besides the bible, that anchors the belief ? And how can you ignore the validity of the things spoken by guys like Penn Jillette or Christopher Hitchens ? Although I do NOT consider myself an "athiest", to me those guys are intelligent and make perfect sense of it all.
Mitch f Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Completely understand the Genesis thing Wrench, I'm more of a New Testament guy myself. I'm not sure I understand it completely either. But I do know of a personal experience I had that gave me full assurance. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Ketchup Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Wrench, trust me when i say....... Its easier not to believe in christ, than to believe. If you are a true follower, it is a lifestyle, and not something you do on sundays. So for those that get drunk during the week, smoke whatever you smoke, are dishonest, then thats the easy way to live. Following christ is a difficult choice until you truly wrap your soul around it. Im not going to tell you whats best for you. Only you know that, but dont think that those that follow christ do it because its easy. Its actually the opposite. TinBoats BassClub. See, that's the common misconception... That IF you don't believe the words of the bible then you must be a drunken thief (or similar type person), or that you have been overtaken by Satan and worship HIM instead. That is the furthest from the truth. I don't have any beliefs in Satan either. A person doesn't need God in their life to be genuinely honest, helpful, caring, and just be a good person. The payoff for being genuinely good are immediate and everlasting even without religious faith.
