ColdWaterFshr Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 You're right, this isn't fair to Batman. Even Batman didn't need a gun.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 You are both well beyond crazy. Because we challenge your belief in a respectful manner you choose to revert to ridicule? Is the ability to debate lost in this country?
ness Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Sorry if this is off topic, but I just had to share this somewhere and this seemed as good as anyplace. I always considered myself a Mary Ann guy -- Ginger just never did it for me. So, last night I'm watching Gilligan's Island on TV Land and somehow Mary Ann gets hypnotized and thinks she's Ginger -- she even starts wearing Ginger's clothes. Now I'm gonna have to rethink things! There's a third, even better choice! Oh, and then the Professor tries to hypnotize her back to Mary Ann, and Gilligan's watching and guess what?? He ends up thinking he's Mary Ann! Oh man, my gut still hurts from all the laughing. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore! MOBass 1 John
mjk86 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Because we challenge your belief in a respectful manner you choose to revert to ridicule? Is the ability to debate lost in this country? Yup. .....and Internet forums ruined rational debates a few years ago. Its just typed poop from all of us and means nothing.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 And you assume that a gun on your hip is going to protect you and your family, as per the armed robbery article you referred to -- in the same way that a seat-belt will if you are in a collision?? Your own seat-belt is not likely to be stolen and be used against you or someone else, is it? Locking the door of your house doesn't bring with it any real deadly liability, does it? Nor does providing for your family. As others have said, the risk of carrying far outweighs the benefits. You are not professionally trained as a law enforcement officer is, right? So you really can't impress me enough that you are as responsible as you claim to be. What if you are out running errands, and you have your gun on you, and you come to a place of business that is clearly marked, "no guns". What do you do with your sidearm then? Lock it in your car? it is an emotional decision on your part to carry and it brings with it a huge responsibility. A responsibility that 99.999% of our population just is not equipped to take on. Take a look around you. The average schmo Unless you have been the victim of an armed robbery and it gives you some kind of "psychological" comfort, or puts you at ease . . . well, then you just need therapy. OR, its not that at all. Far more likely, you have these fantasies of being a hero, to be like Batman. I'm sorry, but you do. I would recommend you surrender your car keys. Starting a vehicle is a much bigger liability and you are much more likely to cause injury or death by your use of it. See how that works? Ah....The only LEOs are professional enough statement! It took a lot to get that out of you. Are you aware of how many rounds are required for a LEO to qualify with? How many the average LEO shoots in a year? The training required? This is where you will insert some ridicule, not respond because you have no clue, and ramble on with the talking points. Were you aware that last night the LAPD had an officer involved shooting where a bystander was shot in addition to an unarmed man? Are you familiar with the number of bystanders shot by the NYPD in an officer involved shooting? It was more than one. Do a little homework and you may want to go the route of England and disarm the beat officer. Pro tip....The large number of LEO trade in Glocks and M&Ps are in shockingly good condition for the most part and have exceptionally low round counts. You project a lot. Might want to have that looked into. May I ask....Are you a true believer or are you paid to troll forums?

This is 'merica though so why not get both! LarrySTL 1
Al Agnew Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Look guys, you're dreaming if you think that we will ever get rid of handguns in this country. If I could wave a magic wand and make them all disappear and stay disappeared forever, I probably would. But Harry Potter doesn't exist. Australia? My Aussie friend who is a huge gun enthusiast has pointed out multiple times to me that it's simply a different culture, that when the draconian gun laws were passed, nearly every gun owner dutifully turned in their handguns and jumped through all the hoops they had to do to keep their other guns. And since gun ownership and gun violence as a percentage of the number of people was a fraction of what it is here in the first place, getting rid of most of the guns lowered gun crimes, but they were already low. I am not willing to even entertain the idea that any real kind of gun confiscation would ever occur here unless the crappola had already hit the fan in a lot of other ways. This ain't Australia and it ain't Nazi Germany or any of those other places where the citizenry dutifully disarmed or was forcefully disarmed, and if it ever comes to that, we're screwed before it ever happened. Anything else is scare-mongering; after all, we heard over and over that once Obama was elected and the Democrats had the supermajority that there were going to be major gun laws passed, and all that really happened was a shortage in .22 ammo because of hoarders buying it all up and ammunition companies being too inefficient to be able to ramp up production fast enough. And as has been pointed out, nothing happened after Sandy Hook, either. Why? Because anybody with any sense knows that no draconian gun law will be universally obeyed in this country, or even substantially obeyed. And because nobody can agree upon what would work to prevent more massacres. And because the Supreme Court once again ruled for private ownership on the Second Amendment. Yep, the anti-gun folks will keep screaming and scheming to nibble around the edges with laws that are about as worthless as the paper they are written on. But there's a reason why we're so divided in this country; it's because neither side has a clear and lasting majority on much of any issue, and gun laws are no exception. I'd carry if I was forced to live, work, or spend a lot of time in high crime areas. If that's your situation, have at it. But there really are vastly different risks depending upon your situation, and most of the people who are carrying are extremely unlikely to ever need to use it. If you consider it personal responsibility to carry just in case, then make darned sure that responsibility extends to carrying it extremely safely, practicing with it religiously, and giving a LOT of thought to when and when not to bring it out. And to answer somebody's question about what I would have thought the best thing to do if the guy with the armed robbers had been a police officer... I would hope that he would have assessed the situation, carefully weighed the risks to bystanders in various scenarios, and made a responsible decision. I doubt that it's standard operating procedure even for police to confront muttiple armed suspects without back-up unless there is a very clear and present danger to others and themselves. This seems to me to have been pure luck that a bunch of shots weren't fired and people hurt or killed. And it would have been just as true if the guy had been a policeman and done the same thing he did. Sure, it goes against the grain to watch wrongdoers get away with wrongdoing, but there were probably better ways to handle it.
rangerman Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 #1) dwi related cars wrecks kill a lot of people and innocent drivers. But hey, some of you think, you know it's ok to have a couple and drive around. Outlaw cars and drinking? Also for the ones that think hey it's ok to have a couple and drive around...go do a death notification at about 3 in the morning resulting from a dui crash. #2)In my endeavors I've worked a lot more stabbings than shootings..outlaw knives? #3)Monday quarterbacking someone's decision to act in a milli second situation is irresponsible. Unless you've been there. #4)I'm am guessing and pretty sure there are only a few of us that have been in a struggle that could be possibly classified as life or death. don't try to make assumptions or decisions on what they should or shouldn't do, again, unless you have been in the situation and can provide unique insight. Carrying 24/7 365.. A lot of Leo's have to as it is departmental policy...Many also have something in policy about "cowardice". Oh Al, you don't always have the luxury of trying to determine what the bad guys are going to do.
