fishinwrench Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 All of a sudden I can't get bit. What happened? As soon as all the shad fry showed up my shallow pattern and my deep bites both just stopped working. A week ago I was limiting in 3-4 hours consistently, and now I can't even get a single keeper bite. Who is catching them....and how ?
conorsixtakc Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I ran into the same issue this weekend (granted I probably didnt see as much water as you, Wrench) but found a few good bites under a dock with a good amount of brush, on a shoreline parallel with the creek channel. The sun was high so that helped with them seeking shade under it, and water was a little deeper than the other dock's i'd been fishing at the back of it (roughly 18'). Moving the jig fairly quickly seemed to help... They didn't seem to be as heavily cued in on wood as they normally are this time of year, I didn't catch a single fish dragging a worm through my usual brush piles...

Maybe the new bride has more juice than you thought. You'll prolly be home early for dinner now. Pete

Yeah they appear to be suspended and scattered, or maybe they are bunched up in larger groups somewhere (???) Kinda odd that this sudden change coincided with the hatch of all the shad fry. Surely the bigger fish aren't out gorging on those tiny things?
Old plug Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I got a notion it has something to do with being there at the right time. And that time might be short. I got 5 shorts last evening walking some docks here. All were less than 10 ft right there in Wrenches favorite fishing range. But I caught them all in a short period between the time the sun was starting to disappear behind the hills and pink up time. Everything went dead at pink up. They were aggresive about me shaking the day lights out of a big plastic worm.
fishinwrench Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 OK well maybe I panicked too soon, I did alot better this evening. I believe the bass are bunching up. Once you find a good one there are more good ones close by. Just keep moving along until you catch one....then bear down in that general area for awhile. I'll find out tomorrow if they are staying put in the same areas or if they are just roaming around in schools. MOsmallies 1

That is the way it was for me before the holiday, was pretty slow and pulled up on a dock and pulled 6 or 7 keepers off and around one dock. Haven't been out since then, hopefully soon!
Old plug Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I got one keeper last evening and. that was it I think my season is mostly over. Spend 1/2 my time wondering about how much water is coming in the boat. I am going to have a new keel welded to it over at Out Back in Sunrise Beach. But he is so loaded dwon with work it might be early winter before he can get to it.
fishinwrench Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 I think I'm back on track now, just needed a little presentation adjustment. Had 4 that weighed over 13lbs in a little over 3 hours this evening. I'm dragging a 3/4 jig along until I come to a piece of cover and RIP THE JIG through the cover agressively, then let it fall back. Bites are coming immediately after the rip. When you get one throw back in there again because there's usually at least one more good fish with him. MOsmallies, jpb2187 and WeekendWarrior 3
