Oddly enough, I caught a Longeared SUnfish that had a not completely healed injury like that out of a creek. That fish seemed healthy enough and it seemed obvious to me that it was a heron strike. No pics so I guess it didn't happen.

Maybe a trolling motor prop injury while someone was fighting him?

That is such a big gap/gash that one would think a blow like that would kill a fish. Was thinking maybe the fish got stuck in some plastic (think 6 pack soda/beer can rings) and grew into and then out of that object?

I remember seeing pics of animals who had grown into those things as a kid and to this day I still break each ring individually before I throw them in the trash.

Right on. That does a lot more for the planet than hugging trees.

Regardless, DMann should send that pic in to Kumar for the bass blaster.

I do the same thing. Cut every hole on those things before they go in the trash/recycle bin. I am no tree hugger but I am in the mindset of conservation is king and don't understand how there aren't viable solutions to stupid things like those 6 pack rings, styrofoam containers and other environmentally hazardous items. Lots of brilliant minds out there that can come up with ingenious solutions.

Hate to think of animals suffering because of human negligence. And that's no knock on hunting. We need responsible harvest. I'm talking about wildlife injured and tangled in our trash.

Good grief you are a wet blanket.

Was my fault, I wuz hungry and had to have a taste. I did release it.

Seriously though, it is amazing the fish survived.
