laker67 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Just heard this from a reliable source that Mike, the hatchery manager for the past several years, is on his way to a desk job in Jefferson City. Leaving at the end of this month is the rumor on the creek. Have not heard any thing on the reason for his sudden departure.
NoLuck Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Well, hopefully if this is true, there will be somebody who isn't another crony of the JR money machine that takes over. Bennett is long over due to have someone that has the best interest of the public and the park instead of the concessionaire. laker67 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Is this the guy that ruined Bennett the past 10 years or so? Pete
laker67 Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Well Pete, I would have to say that would be true. Of course this only my opinion, based on history and my discussion with him in 04. As Noluck says, we are long overdue for a change. Time will tell with the next manager. Will bssp finally be allowed to keep pace with the other parks? Lets hope so.
fishinwrench Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I don't predict any noticable changes with a different hatchery manager. What that place needs is an earthquake. laker67 1
brittsnbirds Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Don't know the man, what I do know years ago before his time there were bigger fish, more and larger lunkers, and brown trout were common. I wonder how much actual decision making responsibility he has? Does he have the ability to decide how large the fish are before release? I suspect there is someone in Jeff City that tells him what to do. Just like the switch to weighing fish in a basket to determine how many go to the river. They use to hand count as they culled them through the basket. Not too many shorts got through. Alot of the changes happened back when the "budget crunch" hit. But every year there has been budget issues. Please tell me if he was making the decisions on what and how to release fish he isn't going to be involved in that part of the process again!! Just some random thoughts. laker67 1
oneshot Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I am hoping there is changes in the fish. I didn't realize Jim Rogers is over more than one park?? oneshot

Yeah this was back when the hatchery was much smaller and had fewer guys working there, they had old rusty green trucks, and hauled feed to the races with wheelbarrows instead of brand new John Deere implements. The 'progress" has not been beneficial at all IMO.
Gavin Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Why would smaller trout serve JR? Thinking bigger fish would attract more folks or maybe most who fish there are happy with a stringer full of dinks? Fish the Niangua occasionally but the park is a drive through on our way to fish someplace. Bought the only time we stop is to feed the fish and let the girls pick out a snack and a cheap toy. 6 and 8 and they would rather float our bank fish someplace else.

He has no say what fish go in the spring. Actually I was upset with many things I thought Jim Rogers had control over only to find he didn't have control over these things. oneshot
