Quillback Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Got out at 0630 and fished until 1 PM. Got a couple of spots on the drop shot, including my biggest spot, a nice 16" fish. Could not find any schools in my drop shot locations, just a random fish here and there. Picked up a 3/8 oz green pumpkin/orange jig and started working steep banks, didn't tear them up but caught another 8 or so doing that. All spots, except for one keeper large mouth. Had one on that looked to be in the 3 lb. neighborhood (give or take a couple of pounds) that got off halfway to the boat. Swimming the jig got me a couple of fish, might be able to catch some now on cranks or swim baits. Water is sort of brown/green with a few feet of visibility. Lots of shad, they are all over the banks and saw some big schools on the fish finder. Saw lots of bluegills on the finder, and was pestered all day long by them. Saw one dead carp, but that was it as far as dead fish. Water temps 81-83. abkeenan, *T*, nomolites and 3 others 6
*T* Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 That's one good looking, healthy spot. Were most fat & happy like that? "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Champ188 Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Good report, QB. Glad you got out. Were the fish in 20 feet or less?
Quillback Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 *T* - That was the biggest spot of the bunch, the rest were 12-14" fish. But fat and healthy. Champ - They were all less than 20 feet, except for one. Steep chunk rock banks, in front of the bushes. Champ188 1
Pepe Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Thanks, QB, for the report. We got on the lake at noon and it was slow working a square bill in front of the bushes
Bill Babler Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Quill, what was the surface temp up there? It has dropped like a rock down here to around 80. This water cools off and with the rain, I believe the fish kill deal is probably dead and gone. Been getting quizzed about it a lot from Fall Clients. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Bill, I saw 81-83 for surface temps. Only saw one dead fish, and it was a carp. There are lots of shad and they look healthy and so do the bass. I think things are setting up nicely for some good fall fishing.
