Ever Hooked a Grass Carp on a Lure?

My buddy had one about 20-25 pounds crush his square bill right at the boat while smallmouth fishing on the Gasconade this weekend. It eventually made a big run and straightened out the hook. We got a very good look at it several times and it was hooked in the mouth. I've heard of people catching them on liver and worms, but can't say I've ever heard of one hitting a lure. Earlier in the day I had something huge smoke my squarebill and I broke it off on the hookset. It left one heck of a swirl and I almost wonder if it also wasn't a big grass carp because it was identical to how his hit. It wasn't far from where he hooked his carp, but I didn't see a squarebill hanging out of it's mouth either while he was fighting it.

Yep, many years ago I caught one on a jointed rapala I was twitching on top.  At that time Grass Carp were relataively scarce except in ponds, this was a 7 acre lake we had stocked.  It would have close to 50#, the guy who held it up was a Veteranarian and guessed it at every bit of 50 pounds.  Didn't put up as good a fight as a regular carp, at least I didn't think so.  We put it back into the lake.

Bassmaster#1 caught a 30+lb one on a WTD bait in his condo pond a couple years ago.  Said it felt like a log hit it.

My bil caught one on july 4 out of raintree lake that went 22lbs. He was using my 5wt fly rod with a white jig under an  indicator. Hard fighter, took a good 30 minutes to land him. He had 6lb vanish as a leader.

 yes, I hooked one on a crankbait . While fighting it the crank popped loose, flew back and hit me in the forehead. Next thing I knew my friend was kneeling next to me, shaking my shoulder and asking if I was okay . There was a welt on my forehead but luckily no hooks in me .

 At least I got the crankbait back .

Yes. Had a huge 40-50lber smash a red squarebill bandit crankbait this spring. Ended up breaking me off after a few minutes. 

Hookup was in the mouth and the hit was huge.

The thing was more like 40+...Look how thick it was.  The carps gills started to make a cracking noise when I tried to pick it up to weigh it.  I had to put it back in the water.  Caught it in a pond in wildwood about 3years ago on a megabass topwater.  That it was  a Huge bass at first  Didn't think I was going to get that lure back.  Forgot I had this picture....Man the amount of fishing I was able to due before two kids.
