Blll Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Ok, I'm a believer. Neds work well on Beaver too. So you glue the bait to the head so it won't come off. I rigged 4 about 2-3 weeks ago to be ready if I snagged one off. Well I did not lose any to snags but all were trashed as the salt ate through the hooks. I could snap the hooks with my fingers. Pre rig-don't pre rig? What's the deal?
rps Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Step one - stretch and snap the plastic repeatedly before rigging to remove all the salt you can. Step two - pre rig one or two in the morning but save the rest of the desalted baits for on the spot rigging. Step three - Try not to let it make you crazy. crazy4fishin 1
crazy4fishin Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I never pre rig....but I also leave one on all the time and have never had that problem. I am not sure who's head you are using but I would recommend buying them from Dave....he is on this board a lot. C4f fisherofmen11 and magicwormman 2 Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Members Fishin4Fun Posted September 11, 2015 Members Posted September 11, 2015 I second in recommending Dave's heads. I have had Ned rigs on his for days and not one problem. I have fished the same Ned rig a multitude of times over a two to three week time period and never had this problem. RPS's steps above are the way to go in my opinion too. Enjoy! Quillback Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Dave's heads with Mustad hooks minimizes the rust problem. I've got some I glued up early in the spring that are still good.

I've had some pre-rigged for months with no problems. Quillback 1
MOPanfisher Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I have a Ned question to ask also. I have a little $ burning a hole in my pocket and wanting a new rod, one that while maybe not purpose built to fish a Ned but would work well for it. Now for the conditions, $150 or under, not so long that I don't want to take it to the littler rivers but want it useful for other types of fishing as well. Currently own 3 St. Croix so thinking 6' 6" Medium light St Croix for like $125. Opinions ? Champ188 1

I have a spinning version under construction for Bill Babler. Maybe Dave can recommend a store bought.
Blll Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Well I must have a cursed Plano box as my heads are from Dave. I think having a rig tied on but no more pre-rigging for me. Really thick crusty rust in the box with rust tabs in the box. Crazy. Thanks for the responses. Say MoPan,recent trip to Springfield BP to buy the exact St Croix rod you mentioned. Out of stock of course. Rod guy in the store turned me on to a Browning Lite with micro guides. I think the 6'6" M/L was about $100. Really nice rod. President reel, 6# Invizix works great. JMO
Pepe Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I like the black nickel mustad hooks but I also like to make my jig heads with a gami hook. Being in the anti-corrosion business I naturally lean toward prevention over mitigation. I have been coating my hooks with a slightly thinned epoxy. They can be left rigged for weeks that way. Putting the anti-corrosion tabs or desiccant packs in your box also helps Quillback 1
