Members ALLSTAR1 Posted September 19, 2015 Members Posted September 19, 2015 Made a day trip to Bennett on 9-17. Got fishing around 11 and fished until 4 with a short lunch break. The good; tons of fish, water was in good shape and the weather was nice! Caught and released 20-25 fish on black and yellow 1/64 marabou jigs, JD jig, pink fur bug, and white roach under a float. Fish were in all parts of the stream that I fished; from the whistle bridge to the dam apron. About 3:30 saw a bunch of risers so tried the fly rod with a Dave's hopper and got 3 that hit like bass! Fun! The bad; The restrooms at the hq store where you get tags were the nastiest smelliest I have seen/smelled in a long time. Surely, a concessionaire, MO dept cons. or somebody could manage some decent places to wash up etc. Wow! The ugly; Why cannot BS provide some fish cleaning facilities? I was sitting on the steps above the big bridge winding down and got an eerie feeling; looking down the skeletal remains of rainbow staring at me with algae covered eyes amid a dozen skins, heads etc. with a swarm of gut eaters waiting for me to clean something. Not needed.
oneshot Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 If you want I will let my friends know down there. I hope you caught fish of size this has been one problem in the past. oneshot
Members ALLSTAR1 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Members Posted September 20, 2015 size was adequate; pretty uniform, no dinks but no lunkers.. a couple maybe 13 in. I talked to the lady that does the room reservations and she said it only gets "cleaned" once a day if lucky...I guess the staff at the hatchery might know why cleaning stations are tabu at BSSP upstream 1
Members gwh Posted September 20, 2015 Members Posted September 20, 2015 They had plans to put a cleaning station in a few years ago but when the budget got cut it was put on hold. The restroom issue has a lot to do with the habits of some folks that use them.

You would think when the majority of people this time of year are adults that the restrooms would be in a little better shape. I know they suffer dramatically up in the CG's due to kids. The rest room by the Holland dam suffers from a wet floor and leaves/grass tracked in due to waders. That makes it a little sloppy. I have noticed boot prints on the toilet and urinal. No call for that! As far as bad shot's and not flushing "come on guys" lets do our part!! Wish they had more money to dedicate a janitor for just the poopers but I suspect that isn't the only job they have assigned. As far as the fish cleaning stations, it was a hot topic several years ago. If I'm not mistaken RRSP got one as well as Montauk. Maybe if they would have put some of the money towards the cleaning stations that they used on the DIDMO cleaning stations (that aren't used) we might have one more!! I don't know if you have noticed but the park is not as "pristine" as it use to be. they don't cut the grass as often and a number of trash cans have gone away. Try to do my part and pick up trash as I meander through. If we all had the mentality of "leave it cleaner than you found it" that would help. I try to pick up where I camp, park, fish or walk. upstream and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
oneshot Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Ok talked to them about the Restrooms, they have been told by several about them but I didn't hear anything about taking care of the problem. Have heard Coffee Shop talk about changes going to be made down there. What I heard I don't know if it is Bad or Good. I'm concerned about other Camp Grounds and Outfitters in the area from what I seen last season and this season has been good. I see this and have one that is to pay a percentage, in past has been good about paying this year have not seen a Dime. Not sure what is going on, I'm going to have to have a Talk with them. oneshot
NoLuck Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Who is in charge of seeing that all of the facilties are up to standard???? Maybe it's time to put some money back into the park instead of putting it all in their pocket.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I've been going to Bennett for many years. 40 plus. The past 5-7 my experience relative to the past is only bad and ugly. We quit going when they put that stupid pipe in below the main bridge. Too bad too, I have a lot of family memories there. Pete
fishinwrench Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 We quit going when they put that stupid pipe in below the main bridge. Don't get me started. That was the straw for me as well. Totally ruined the Highbank stretch.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Yeah the whole management of the Park seemed to change. I don't know enough about what goes on down there but man did they ruin a nice place. I heard they put some patio at the spillway but I haven't bothered going there since the pipe was put in. Pete
