WOW. That cat has to be pushing 40+lbs. I am shocked he brought it to the boat without snapping the line especially with their sandpaper teeth. That must have been a 20+ minute battle with the drag screaming with that thing on 8-12lb line. Thanks for sharing.

Whoa, great looking fish, both.  Have had instances where friend in the boat hooked up to a freight train up the white.  First thought was striper but a flathead like that may have been the culprit.

I suspect this has to do with the oxygen level below 25 feet being almost nonexistent, therefore nearly all of the fish are up where anglers can get to them.

I'd like to catch a flathead like that sometime, and I'm real surprised he was able to get it in.

On Tablerock and Bull Shoals, every time I've hooked a "freight train" while bass fishing I've always been disappointed when it turned out to be a giant carp or drum.

Wasn't nearly that big, but I had a big channel cat (at least 15 pounds) break my heart last June off the island in between the mouth of the james and mill creek. Football jig in 15' and one of the hardest slack line jig bites I've ever felt. I thought for a few seconds I had a huge smallie or meanie, then I almost got pulled into the water. Still a fun fight, my wife was on the back deck reading and not understanding what all the fuss was about.

My son caught this cat over the weekend on an ultralight while fishing for bluegill with a worm. Got the fight on video and had a blast watching him battle it. It made 4 hard runs and I was shocked the line didn't break, we inspected it afterward and it was badly frayed, one more run and it would have been done. My daughter also caught a nice flathead off the dock with a worm. Pretty rare occurrence in our fishing experience.
