JestersHK Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to try the wool for sure. Off to Google the patagonia ones as well although I'm guessing there's some sticker shock there. I do use hothands and but them in bulk lol.

I had a discount back when I bought them. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Ham Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I like the fingerless gloves. I carry multiple pairs of the micro fleece gloves. Wring them out when they get wet and almost all the water comes out. Much better than no gloves. Hand warmers for truly awful cold days. Like < 25 degrees. The Stick on hot patches for back ache or whatever get really warm and stay there for hours. Another option to look at. Not cheap, but only a few dollars and could make a big difference in your comfort level if you are determined to stay out all day in the cold. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Flysmallie Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 and body warmers(adhere to your back), which I have never used. I have used these and I love them. I think they are actually made to adhere to the inside of clothing. That's how I use them anyway. Ham 1
rFisherk Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Still the best I've found is the old fashioned Miller Mitts: 100 percent wool, fingerless, slit on the thumb to expose it too, or not, and a flap that can be folder over the fingers, like a mitten, when you don't need fingertip control. Nothing is as warm when wet as wool.
Jason R. Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Man, if it is so cold that my line is icing to my guides (fly rod)- I am usually going to opt to do something else. It isn't just the cold- it's trying to keep all your equipment functional that really sucks the fun out of it. Flysmallie 1 http://flyinthesouth.com/
David Unnerstall Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 If you can't go waterproof, wouldn't wool fingerless work better then cotton? + (whatever it is up to, now) Wool does not feel wet when it is wet. Cotton does. I use fingerless wool gloves.
Jason R. Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I used to use the Army issue black wool gloves- they are itchy but they work well. Got them at surplus stores for real cheap. I usually cut a few fingers off- not my fingers... the glove fingers. http://flyinthesouth.com/
JestersHK Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Awesome ideas guys, thanks so much, and never thought about using the patches that stick on. I honestly have never minded the cold with fishing. Until the hands get wet and start stinging. We have a family trip every year in November to Branson, and its a nice to get out on the water at night or in the early morning for some peace and quiet before the family adventures of the day begin.
