I ask that question  out loud all the time Wrench.....it kinda Flies in the face of what the MDC says about those wonderful  fish. I know this much there is a shiot load of Hybrids  that don't  reproduce allegedly??? One thing for sure they are a flat out fun fish

Forgive my ingnorance, but what is MDC's stance on stripers and wipers? I know that they have stocked both species in impoundments over the years.  It is my understanding that the hybridization of whites and stripers can and does occur naturally.  I catch both stripers and whites in the meramec so, why shouldn't I expect to catch wipers as well?

I'd say from here.

Where did you get the idea they quit stocking them in the '80's?

From Greg Stoner back in 1995-96 when he fished a COPS benefit tournament from the back of my boat.   Possibly the last day the dude spent a full day on the water. :)

See that's your problem, Chief. You accept as gospel EVERYTHING you see MDC print.  Many MANY times they are full of $#it as a Christmas goose.  They spend way more time publishing propaganda than they do going out and physically doing anything.

There are some Stripers in LO but they aren't from any recent stockings. Natural reproduction happens.  And the hybrids they stock ARE breeding with the Whites which (according to them) is impossible also.  They are either blinded by science or they just don't wanna be held liable for altering the gene pool, so the biologists maintain that hybrids are sterile.

Well I have a choice.

I can either go on what they say, which I have yet to figure out a reason for them to lie about stocking fish.

Or I can go with you which is ardent hater of everything they do and is going on a one time mention from someone 20 years ago which if the MDC is just a bunch of liers....

You are sensationalizing.   I dont hate the things they do, but if I did that really wouldn't be a big deal cuz they don't DO much of anything around here besides cut grass and drive around looking at things (probably just verifying that the grass got cut).

It sure as hell ain't me doing the sensationalizing.

Its funny to read your take on the MDC when you never leave a 10 mile square area. And that is being generous.

Harris, I've watched you post for several years.  I'm trying to figure out why you never catch fish? I think your pulling our leg!

If your not, you need to try something different. Are you just standing on the bank and throwing a lure out in the current in some non descript spot? Are you sitting in a lawn chair fishing with Rod holders? What lures are you using?

Mitch I have gotten better about it, noticeably so, but I still am not one to pull out impressive catches. That day, I had got a bite from a little black bass, but it got off, and that was the extent of my action for the 2-3 hours I fished. I occasionally catch a decent fish or numbers of them, and sometimes even numbers and decent size together (today I caught 5 fish at Bush wildlife, most around 12.5-13, and my by far biggest Largemouth Bass to date at 17"). But by and large it's usually 1 to 3 smallish fish here and there. As far as what I do, it's hard for me to pinpoint it. First I try to target spots that look to me like they should hold fish, then I tend to throw the kitchen sink all over nondescript spots, and then back again to the spots that look good. Generally I don't catch much in deeper water far from shore though. Sometimes I am limited by how far I can move up and down or where to cast, other times I'm either in a friend's boat, or my kayak, or a bank where freedom of movement isn't a problem. Especially if I'm mainly fishing for catfish and such, I will throw something out and tight line it and leave it in rod holder. But usually I'm actively fishing in the meantime for whatever will hit. My lures that I have most faith in nowadays, tend to be in-line spinners, shallow spinner baits, crappie tubes on a 1/32 oz jig head under slip bobber, and certain crank baits. The ones I do worst with tend to be bass jigs, most top waters aside from torpedoes and buzz baits, and a lot of the soft plastics. I think it just doesn't come as natural to me as to a lot of folks, so my learning is slower paced.
