Quillback Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Looks like folks enjoyed the chat session, I say we do it again, Tuesday November 17 at 7PM.
m&m Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I'll be there. Everyone should put a note on their phone as a reminder. Mike Ham 1

Lurkers could be anglers who are trying to learn how to catch - beginners - and they won't have anything to contribute. I guess what I don't want to see is members being tagged as lurkers and belittled in chat or on the forum. And I certainly understand where you're coming from, too. We had far too much belittling and such last spring and none of us want that again. Ever. Frankly, given that only members can enter the chat room, I will be glad to reveal a lot of hopefully helpful information that I wouldn't otherwise. If we have members in the room who use that info to kill bass, I don't think it will be any significant number. Where my reluctance comes in is out in the main forum where you have "guests" (lurkers just sounds criminal) who cherry-pick this info and use it to either kill a bunch of fish OR who only come around during tournament season and see what they can glean without ever signing up and posting anything themselves. I will be glad to help ensure that there is no belittling or other unsavory behavior in these chats. I know that others will, too. I learned my lesson last spring. From now on, I will state my position/convictions on C&R and I'm done. I can sign off and come back another time.
LD Fisher Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Wished I'd remembered too The wife and I plan to scare a few this weekend. We tried two weeks ago and as usual my wife smoked me with a 2+ lm. Other than that, it was very slow going!!!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 5, 2015 Root Admin Posted November 5, 2015 I could make it so that no one could see any forums unless they registered... other forums do that. Just been reluctant to because some people would/may have trouble with it.

There are a numerous amount of forums setup this way, where you have to be registered to even read post...i for one dont have any problems with that being done here. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips

Just been reluctant to because some people would/may have trouble with it. I personally fear that might negatively affect the number of new members, which we wouldn't want to do. I would think that a good portion of our membership started out in the shadows. Everyone here should know the risks of putting too much information --- i.e., specific locations, patterns, etc. --- out on the open forum. Filter what you say or expect it to be picked up on by random visitors to the site. My personal concern is not so much for my specific spots. I can find more spots. But I don't want to arm catch-and-eat anglers with the info to kill bass. That's my big deal. We all have them. A secondary concern is giving out too much info during tournament season to those whose pretournament homework involves using their computer more than their boat. I spend a lot of money trying to catch these silly fish and none of the "bent pole pattern" guys are helping me with my boat payment, tackle shop bill, etc. Thatsaid, we should all want an active and growing forum. The more contributors, the more fish we all catch ... and the less secrets Babler has to reveal.
gitnby Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I normally agree with Champ188 on most everything he says, and he makes a good point on this thread. I don't fish tournaments, but appreciate and admire guys/gals who do. I also don't play on the PGA Tour, for much the same reasons: 1.I'm not good enough, nor do I have the time or money to devote to being good enough. 2. I enjoy the sport without the need for the competition That doesn't mean that I don't try to get better at it, whether it be a swing tip or some new fishing method. We can all thank the PGA and B.A.S.S. for most of the technology advances in both sports. Without the sponsors and the $$, we would likely still be using cane poles and persimmon woods? My question is this: How many bass are actually being caught and eaten? Versus how many fish die from poor catch n release methods, whether it be from a tournament or weekend angler? I don't know if there are any studies on this, but I would venture to say that there really aren't that many folks that catch n eat? Personally, I don't like the taste of bass. For way less then the cost of a Whopper Plopper and a day's worth of gas for the boat, I can grill a nice Tuna steak, Salmon or several other delicious choices available at Harter House. As for sharing information, this site may be the single best resource I've ever seen. Are there "eaters" on this site? Probably a few? Are there "guests" who use the info on this site for for personal gain in a tournament? Probably a few? But, for the simple task of setting up an account, anyone can get on the forum. (Unless Phil institutes an IQ test to qualify, in which case, me and several others would be banned!) Maybe I am naive, but I just don't feel it's as big of a problem as some think. Members Jtram201 Posted November 5, 2015 Author Members Posted November 5, 2015 I will have to admit I was one of those linkers that read the forums often. I didn't contribute because I didn't have a boat and I wasn't going fishing, but I like to fish and used to a lot. Now I have bought another boat and use the tackle from 20 years ago at least at this point. I need to go to the tackle shop with some of you guys so you can point me in the right direction since most baits are designed to catch fishermen.
