I'm done no more deer for me. Not even going to firearm hunt. BilletHead Jr. Will come home to try his luck. We duck hunted this morning with no luck. So this afternoon we hit the woods for deer. Mrs. BilletHead on the North side of the eighty we hunt and myself to the South side. Strong south wind but I was on the North side of a trail so no worries or so I thought. We headed off in different directions and sent each other a text when we got settled. So windy it was a pain. I hear something behind me, wrong side for the wind. Sure enough here comes a buck. Not having time to think do I want this one or not? Here he came, a few more steps and he will be down wind, smell me and be gone. He stepped into an opening and I let him have it. He ran a few steps and then started walking. He than stopped and fell over dead. He was four yards from my tree and after the shot went fifteen yards. I texted the Mrs. and told her that her to come on over I shot one.  When it gets this close to gun season I get anxious to get my bow deer over and I did this. Three and a half year old. Ten point with and extra flier point most of it broken off that would of went to the inside of the rack. Another one for the larder and again blessed to have a full freezer,

I like it when they go down fast.  Good job!

A kid up the road has stuck 3 but has yet to knife one.  I'm about to quit speaking to him.

I know several guys like that. It drives me freakin nuts! Of course it is never their fault and always the equipment. One guy has shot five or six deer this year with his bow and FINALLY recovered one a few days ago. He wasn't even going to look for it because he had assumed he blew his shot again, but wanted to find his arrow. He got lucky and walked up to the deer with his arrow still stuck in it. If you just assume you make a bad shot every time you let an arrow loose, you probably shouldn't be bow hunting.

I've messed up a few times as well, but I probably kill 10-15 deer for every screw up I've had.

That's so true. Why aren't these guys out practicing before the season? Getting better and learning what they are capable of. I don't hunt but I do shoot a bow and understand my capabilities.

I made a bad shot once too, but I went and rounded up a posse and we stayed out until 2am and found the deer.   Blood on a leaf shows up alot better when using a flashlight.

After that fiasco I never took another iffy shot.  Just because I can spilt a soda straw at 30 yards during practice doesn't mean I can do it from a stand when it's subject to jump the string.
