Donna and I launched Sunday at 7:30 at Shell Knob and quit at 4:45. Sum total for the day was 15-18 fish with 3 keepers. I hurled that dang baked potato (Whopper Plopper) until both shoulders felt like I'd been hanging from a tree limb for 10 hours and got maybe five bites on it all day, three of which failed to connect despite the fact that I DID NOT jerk it away from them. The two I did catch were a nice 17-inch spot and a 14 15/16-inch largemouth.

Also threw a blade a fair amount, scoring one keeper on it. No love on the jerk bait yet regardless of how I varied the retrieve.

Credit Donna for putting down the winding baits and figuring out some semblance of a bottom bite. Ended up doing our minimal damage mostly on a Ned and a shaky head. A couple on a jig.

Burns my BVD's that we played golf Saturday (sunny) thinking Sunday's clouds and breeze would have them chomping, when the truth was the guys who fished Saturday wore them out on winding baits (spinner bait, square bill, etc.).

Oh well, we'll make up for it one day soon.

Bright spot of the day was meeting fellow OAFer 96 CHAMP. A very fine fellow, a good stick and owner of what may be the cleanest 96 model Champion boat in existence --- or any year, for that matter. Sure was good to visit with him.

Keep after 'em, guys.

champ, it reminds me of way back in my very early years.  my dad took me fishing with a friend of his.  we did not hardly get a bite all day trolling for white bass.  when we came in the guy at the dock said "you should have been here yesterday.  they really tore them up".  my dad's buddy got right up in the guys face and told him, "yeah, well that is how all the lies get started"!

it always seems that when one can not pick and choose their days, it just always seems like you should have been there yesterday.  but hey, a bad day of fishing beats a good day of working anytime.  right?

I always think that the best fishing is when I am throwing a lure into the lake.  The best catching might have been yesterday, or tomorrow or even later today, but I sure have fun fishing right now!!! IMHO

Absolutely right, Bo. Wouldn't have traded the day on the water for anything. Mostly just amused at how these fish seem to be doing everything except what they should be this year. :)

It is always good to be out fishing, but I'm starting to get a little mad at these fish.

I think a lot of people were thinking Sunday would be some good fishing as there were a bunch of boats out there.  I'm sure there were a few that got into them.

Sounds like they're on the right program up around Holiday Island. My portly posterior just might be up there amongst 'em later this week.

I've got a friend flying in Wednesday. I'm going to do my best to put him on SOME fish Thurs, Friday, and Sat.

Thanks for the kind words champ, my very thoughts on you and your wife, sent your bud quill a message and told him, now to fishing,,,Saturday was a good day, caught a lot of fish, Sunday was OK, had to work hard, threw the bake potatoe a bunch and caught a fair amount but all short ones, caught 2 nice ones on shakey head but lost both, I think 1 on square bill, Monday was not as good, thought it would be better, I can't tell ya how many times over the years I have come down here and struggled, but one good day out of 3 is a success in my book, l tell myself every time I come down here and have difficult days are the days I learn more. I look forward to meeting more of you guys in the future, Good luck fishing to all of you. A few pics from Sunday

I think I learn more on the days I struggle, but I like the days I fall into a big pile of them a lot more. I can definitely say its better to work hard and catch them late than it is to catch a big bunch first thing and then go STONE COLD for the rest of the day.
