Mitch f Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 This is what I enjoy doing, sitting in front of the fireplace, or in the Man Cave in the basement.... I love experimenting. I hope you guys will post some of your favorite hair jig patterns. MOsmallies 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
MOsmallies Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Here's some Arctic Fox hair jigs I tied last winter... These were my first attempts and they caught a few fish. I have some ideas to try this year and will post them once I tie them... I need to stock up on football jigheads (hint hint) Mitch f 1
Smalliebigs Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I really only know my own version of a afro engineered rabbit jig but, they work for me. I just had some Raccoon and fox shipped so its time to go to work. Â Â Â Â here are the Gaper jigs in Olive/green pumpkin on an 1/8ounce football.....they seem to work for me.....I'm itching to try the coon and fox Mitch f 1
Smalls21 Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 all of those are really good looking jigs!!!! a lot better than my homeade jigs Mitch f 1
Al Agnew Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Â These are mostly cross cut rabbit fur, and just about all the color combos I use. Â Note the two at top right have two versions of the plastic trailers I cut out of Brush Hogs, the two to the left of them have red squirrel tails for fishing in trout water where you can't use plastic. Â The one on bottom right shows how I re-bend the hook so that the plastic trailer will come straight off the shaft of the hook when it's "nose-hooked". Mitch f and MOsmallies 2
Members jfrith Posted November 23, 2015 Members Posted November 23, 2015 How are you all fishing these? Slow skip along the bottom?

Don't know about the other guys, but I try to keep the bait on the bottom and not move it more than one foot at a time, which takes some practice. Because most people move it 2-3 feet without even knowing it. jfrith 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Al Agnew Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 In cold winter water, it's usually more a drag than a skip. Â Drag it along the bottom, keeping it right on the bottom as much as possible. Â Once in a while I'll give the rod tip a quicker twitch so that it moves more quickly a few inches. Â When it gets a bit hung on a rock, don't pull harder, just jiggle it and try to make it BARELY come off the rock. Â I find it hard to have the patience, but lots of times just letting it sit for as long as you can stand it works. jfrith and Mitch f 2
Dutch Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Unlike some of you I use them all year long. I almost always swim them. Seldom do they ever touch the bottom.
