Members o2bnMO Posted November 27, 2015 Members Posted November 27, 2015 Would a 16' jon boat with a 6 hp motor be ok for taney?
duckydoty Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I have seen smaller on Taney. Start off by the Landing and make sure you can go up steam against the current. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 27, 2015 Root Admin Posted November 27, 2015 Should be ok. Lots of rainbows to be caught right now - especially down at the Landing.
Members o2bnMO Posted November 27, 2015 Author Members Posted November 27, 2015 Thanks. One thing i didn't think about was capacity. 2 adults and 2 kids. Maybe pushing over 500 lbs in persons plus motors, gas batteries, gear etc. Putting in at the landing is a good idea. It's a 7hr trip for us to get there. We have stayed at Phils place several times and have a reservation for next year.
holleybob Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 If your going to drive 7 hrs and have a reservation at Lilleys I would plan on renting a boat there. If your other 3 are not regular fishermen you might even think about a pontoon. Nice and comfortable. Ham 1
fshndoug Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 never ever never overload a boat.It is a sure way to a tragic ending. With added current, the closer you get to the dam,the more dangerous it is.

Very good point ^^ My brother and his wife were fishing on Taney a few years ago when that very thing happened just upstream from them. Very small boat, 3 large people, anchored with the transom facing upstream (another bad idea). Boat passes by, wake came over the transom and all 3 were in the water with their boat sinking within seconds. My brother and his wife had them fished out of the water and into their boat within 2,3 minutes. It could have been very very bad.

We stayed there 3 wks this yr and have almost a month total reserved for 2016. Couldn't agree with you more. I passed the point of being invincible along time ago. I don't own a boat yet. I was looking at a 16' flatbottom on craigslist but backed out when he didn't have a title for the trailer. My neighbor offered to give me an old evinrude 6 hp. That's how I came up with the posted scenario. I was then looking at a 14' lund and cap on it was 4 people @ 150lbs or 960 pounds including people, motor. gas gear. I don't think I know an adult that weighs 150lbs so I think I should go by total cap.
fishinwrench Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 I have this 16' Lake Jon (L1636) ready to sell. It would make a decent rig for Taney I think.
Members o2bnMO Posted December 1, 2015 Author Members Posted December 1, 2015 Wrench, thanks for the offer. If I go with a jon i"ll be looking for a 48" bottom width. I still got my eye on a 1967 lund V bottom tho. I went to my local DMV and asked about getting a title for a trailer from a state that don't title trailers under 2000 lbs. Sounds like it would be a hassle but doable.
