Truman has a healthy population of large hybrids; this time of year I've heard they can be caught on top water and jerkbaits in the flooded timber with wind.  Trolling cranks or spooning the edges of the gravel flats around the islands is always a good bet.

That is a nice fish, where did you get that, LOZ or Truman? Here is a old picture of a picture, caught this, been quite a few years back, up on Gravois arm

All mine caught from LOZ; did not hit a school of LARGE fish this year but I have in past where every fish caught was 8-15#.  Most caught spooning or trolling cranks but some top water(Rattlin' Chug Bug in shad). Main reason is likely I did not spend enough time on the water due to other commitments.

I know, I need to get my priorities straight.

If we all could fish as much as we wanted it would be nice, some years we get more than others, this year was good for me, not having any children to raise allows me more time than others I suppose, I would like to get in on some nice hybrids, going to put my mind to it next fall and see what happens,.

The striper was LOZ, an accidental catch in a deep bluff hole upper Niangua, late fall on a small swimming minnow. The one that I lost this year was same spot on a deep crankbait.

I got this email today, thought I would share it with you all.

Hello Mr. French,

I received an email from our Jeff City office regarding hybrid striped bass.  We do stock hybrids in Lake of the Ozarks every other year at a rate of 3 fish/acre (165,000 fish/stocking).  In alternate years we stock walleye at 6 fish/acre.  If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me.

Good luck with the hybrids,

Sincerely,

Greg

Yep.   Yet many more hybrids are caught than walleye.  Should be some rather large walleye swimming around.

Seems a waste to put walleye in here, cuz nobody can catch 'em.

I believe walley fishing is a whole different story, I would think you would have to be dedicated to going after them, its not like your fishing for them in a natural enviroment as the lakes up north, I have no interest in trying to figure them out, anyway just thought I would pass the info, good reading anyway.
