Well picked our first two ripe tomatoes, smallish but our first. They tasted so good. Also did our first pickles. Yep first time. They are not processed but just put in the fridge. Sour dills. Put one of this years jalapenos in the jar too. A few days then the taste test,

NH, are those purple cherokees?.  My purples were planted way late after lettuce etc.  Do have a couple of other maters turning, and zukes exploded last night.

They are Black Krims MoPanfisher. We picked another three today. One is a big old double monstrosity. Sliced tomatoes today!

Hmm, haven't tied those, sometime the varieties are limited are home.  I am not sure even how many varieties I have out this year, somewhere around 30 plants and no more than 4 of any one variety I don't believe.  Purple Cherokees, Brandywines, mortgage lifters, beefmaster, a gold something, and some cherries are the only ones I can remember.  I love the summer time when you can have a big old bowl filled with cukes, onions and chunks of maters in a wangy vinegar, salt, water, and a little balsamic mix.  I do believe my some would become a vegetarian for a while and eat himself into sickness if I let him, but usually am too busy stabbing his hand with a fork to protect my portion.  Tough to be poor and have to eat stuff out of the garden ain't it.  If only I could be rich and be able to eat tasteless produce from the store and meat that didn't have a name, instead of being able to give the name of the slices of steer sizzling on the grill.

Yes poor, poor us for having to grow our own. Bought a couple from the local farmers market yesterday thinking they looked good. Perfect looking ,I am thinking hot house or shipped in. Did a taste test side by side to our ugly home grown. Farmers market maters tasted bad. Wanted to say tasted like crap but don't know what crap tastes like. I imagine though like farmers market tomatoes.  Just got in from picking cucumbers. Pretty tough grocery shopping in the front yard :) .

I bought some cultured oyster mushrooms yesterday. With the dry weather haven't even thought about hunting for any mushrooms in the woods. We have been somewhat successful in fending off the chickens from our raspberry canes. Able to pick a few every day. No great numbers but nice to eat some fresh fruit without having to pay for it elsewhere. Today we did pick that Cherokee purple tomato from the little mater that could. Also a few cherry tomatoes as well. This is about as ripe as we let cherries get in our yard. Looks like we are about to get some more rain today. Definitely need it.

I have munched on a lot of Sun Golds, but no real maters so far. Those Black Krims look excellent!!

I hope you get some rain and some mushrooms. Dry as a popcorn fart here. Don't think we will have a crop unless we get some. I see some thunder storm cells tracking across I 70 on radar. Is this what you may get?

Ness they are very tasty bud. Turn south from work for tomatoes.

We are about a qurter mile south of I-70 and about two miles east of the Rt 63/I-70 interchange. Storm has swirled over us. Started by going east and now is coming towards us from the SE. We were sitting out front watching the storm. Not very strong and no heavy rain. There was some cool lightening. When it shifted from the SE we started getting wet and moved back inside. Now the slight rain is dissipating. I am hoping that it will continue through the night.
