Champ, When I am launching alone I just keep the boat hooked to trailer wench, let out a bunch of rope, engage the lever so it will not let out any more rope and then back it in like the video shows. I then unclip the boat and crank up the line with the wench. I am not understanding the advantages of a seperate rope that it shows in the video.
MOPanfisher Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I am glad that was his boat and not mine the skidded to a stop on the concrete ramp. maybe I am just to timid with my toys. If I just had a good trailer wench my problems would be solved, or maybe just begin,. just teasing. Champ188 and dtrs5kprs 2

Flippin, on a 20-foot Ranger, the winch strap is only 15 feet long. In other words, it's not long enough for the boat to clear the trailer even if you let it all the way out. dtrs5kprs 1
m&m Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 My son bought me the Boat 2 Trailer contraption for when I fish by myself. I haven't installed it yet but it looks pretty easy as long as you can get into the boat first. You can google it to view the video. Mike

I've got upright roller guides on my trailer, sticking up on each side of the boat by the trailer fenders. Those each have a white PVC extension for better visibility when backing the empty trailer. If wind should cause my empty boat to drift sideways, as often happens, a long rope or strap running from the trailer winch to the front of the boat would tangle with those uprights or other trailer parts, causing all kinds of trouble.

Mine is a 92 model so maybe the straps were longer back then.
176champion Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I only have a 1989 17'6" boat and i have a 20 foot strap on my winch. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips

MOPanfisher, I had the same thought when I saw the video. Sounds like if you buy one of those bungee straps they should throw in a keel guard. or maybe the bungee inventor also does fiberglass repair. lol Mike Ketchup 1
176champion Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 That boat had a keel guard on it or a hamby's or keel shield... MOPanfisher 1 I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
