Thought I would try pomme later this month, HELP

I fish Stockton quite a bit, but my wife would like to try for a musky on her birthday. All though I have fished pomme I don't know much about this bite. 

Stockton has been tough the last 5 weeks or so, I was wondering how pomme is. I need all the help I can get, don't really want to come back empty handed. I need a good picture of the wife with her first musky, photo shop is not an option.

Musky is the fish of ten thousand casts. I have fished Pomme for hundreds of hours over a couple decades and have only caught one.

Go North. There are abundant Musky there. Mostly hookups & break offs while fishing for other species but you will land occasionally. Wont take 10,000 casts. They like slack water and wood cover on the rivers up north.

Yeah..  I don't focus on musky being mostly a bass guy. I guess if i was to target the musky and use more appropriate lures I might catch more. There are some guys who catch a couple every year. I have been told by little birds that above Nemo in the Finley arm is the best place to start looking.. still an elusive to fish to catch. I have had some run ins on Pomme with fish I never saw but ran so fast they broke the line. Could have been musky but in my experience when a fish cleans your spool it is usually a flathead.

The easiest way I know to find musky is to buy a really expensive jerk bait and use it.  I've caught several there by accident, never on purpose.

The more expensive the crank bait the more muskey they really like to mare up a custom paint job. Have caught the most on a little crappie crankbait. Cloudy days do seem best.

We have caught several here on Pomme while Bass fishing, usually on Rattle Traps or Pop Rs. Coopers cove and the point on the West side of the mouth of the Wheatland campground cove have been good spots. Good luck to you and your wife.

Hmm I don't hear much from the muskie guys this time of year.  Will usually start getting hits from them though in March throwing jerk baits like a rogue or crankbaits.  Pretend you are walleye fishing and one of the dang things seem happy to take your lure away.

Everyone has hit it right, just go bass fishing (or walleye) and you have just as good or better chance of catching one. I have caught 3 over the years I have fished there. I just caught one this year, I believe it was in October on a jig.
