Foghorn Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Thought I'd try to give a short report on the opening day at fishing at Roaring. Guess the rain early on kept the numbers down as the park wasn't that crowded when the 6 in our group arrived. We had scouted the upper end of the park and got an idea where we would fish . By 730 a.m., the group had landed 5 lunkers from 3.5# to almost 7#. By 1130 the total had risen to 8 big fish with the biggest fish in the running for the derby prize. A gentleman from Stark City caught a fish that weighed the same shortly before noon so now the big fish title has a tie. A flip of the coin determined the winner and ol' lucky himself won the prize. Now I need some info on the guy from Stark City if anybody on the forum knows who it could be. Will try to contact the Park/and or Cassville Chamber of Commerce as I would like to share the prize with him. The 2nd day was beautiful and we caught another 4 big fish-all were browns and all were released. The Governor from Missouri was there to fire the opening round and fished with 2 of our group. One of the new guys caught his first ever lunker and the youngest in our group caught his personal best rainbow and also got his first C&R patch. Hated to leave Wednesday afternoon but all we all had either work, school, or prior commitments for Thursday. Johnsfolly, laker67, Seth and 1 other 4
Fishmeister Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Thanks for the report. Sounds like your group had a great opener.
Foghorn Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 Did a little research and got the name and address of the gentleman who caught the big fish. Was hoping to get a phone number but wasn't listed so will just send him something in an envelope. Lives in Granby, Missouri if anybody on the forum knows the guy who tied for big fish honors at Roaring. Thanks laker67, trythisonemv, JestersHK and 1 other 4
laker67 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I let the weather forecast scare me out of coming to the opener. Corky said to me, I am not fishing in the rain, so I decided not to come as well. We had a little snow here early and the temp was 33. Glad you had a great trip. 12 lunkers in 2 days. I wanna know what color of bait you were using. I bet it was that glow in the dark green stuff. Let me know when you get closer to my neck of the woods. See ya
Foghorn Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 Laker, the 2nd day would have been ideal for you and Corky. Still a lot of good fish swimming when we left. Still catching those browns on a size #18 egg while Danny caught one of the browns on a #20 emerger. Fish was suspended close to the surface and took the fly on the 2nd cast. He managed to tie the tiny fly on by himself without his son or I doing it for him! Wish you would have come on down. trythisonemv and laker67 2

Foghorn Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 We had alerted the Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for 2 suspicious looking characters who are known trout fishing terrorist's. Only picture that I had that resembled them was of the two Muppet guys-Waldorf and Statler! laker67 1

They were reported to be hanging around the cement pond at rrsp. They may be attempting to blow the dam and release all them big fish into the creek. Foghorn 1
