Hey all, I was just wondering if anybody would chime in about whether or not a guy could catch bass at night right now. Water's in the 50's according to the reports, and the bite seems to be shallow. Would a big black spinnerbait or even a crankbait pay off? Dying to get out there in the dark.

Thanks for any feedback!

Bo should be along shortly with some details. He's a night fishing regular, and mentioned the other day he was gonna start getting out at night soon.

I remember many years ago there was a guy who used to stay at Schooner Creek Resort who would kill em on a black SB at night in the Spring. He had an old, original Ozark bass boat that was beat to heck, but that old boy could catch some fish!

you still need to kind of hand pick your nights right now, but there will be some catchable bass in areas.  my primary weapon for early night fishing is a 3/16 to a 1/4 NuJig tied with hair, and an 800 uncle josh spring lizard pup for a trailer.  you can use a spinner bait and catch some bass, but it will not consistently catch as many big ones as the hair jig and pup.  of course finding any bigger bass is a hard challenge in table rock anymore.  i am pretty tickled anymore to catch 4 lb. bass.

Thank you all for the replies! I have also had success in the spring and I think it just starts up all of a sudden. I'm thinking these upcoming warm dry days will really jump start things. Now we just need to get this system out of here.

Back in the day I used to fish at night in March. I'd throw a big black CC Spinner with a black #11 Uncle Josh pork frog on it. Used to get some absolutely bone jarring strikes on that thing. Definitely a big fish bait. Go for it and let us know how you do.
