Smalliebigs Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 We only fished an hour and half tops. A decent cold front had pushed thru and the Bluebird skies came out. The areas Hog wally has been targeting had changed, fish had moved and things will get a little interesting for a few here. We could only get bit on crankbaits Aaron was throwing a custom painted Koppers HFC craw and I was throwing a SPRO rockcrawler. I had to just be deflecting off the rocks like it was a 23 year old driving home on HWY 44 after St .Louis Mardi Gras. I had a brand new rock crawler and I beat the piss out of that thing. I also had some equipment malfunctions. The water temps still were 51 when we launched at the surface even after the air temps getting to freezing last night...the water crept up to 53 and 54 by the time our hour fishing trip launched from the Meramec Tackle Wharehouse had ended. They all were barely hooked on the back hook but, we caught 16 in the hour or so we fished and all were from 13 to 16 inches....it was a dink fest but, I did have an absolute GIANT chase a 15 inch smallie as I reeled it in and hit my fish in an attempt to take the rock crawler....that was very cool!!! Dink fest and Hog Wally with a double species dink shot I am pretty sure he will nail some very nice fish tomorrow with his buddy but, fishing is about to get interesting....I'm hoping for stable flow and temps the same so we can get a good spawn and early before the Memorial Day meat hunters get launched. Smallieguy87 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Not bad Considering the big cold front and blue bird skies. Well done guys and as always good pictures. I'm surprised the water stayed that warm considering how cold it's been at night and climbing back to about mid 50s is what I like to see. Hour and a half well spent. bkbying89 and Smalliebigs 2

Smallieguy87 Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Dude those videos are sweet. Unless you think it's revealing to much Intel haha bkbying89 1
Brian Jones Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Pretty dismal downstream today as well. Put in at Pacific and the highlight was a 3.76lb largemouth on my fourth cast. Pretty much down hill after that. Ran almost to River Round and caught five more "keepers" and three or four shorts. NOT ONE SMALLIE however. I have officially entered my annual 50-55 degree water temp smallie drought........... No pic of the big fish as I left 8400 without my phone or camera this morning and didn't realize it until I was almost to Hillsboro. Think I'll give Big River a try tomorrow. It's closer to home if the fishing is poor.................... Smalliebigs, bkbying89, Mitch f and 1 other 4
Smalliebigs Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Dude those videos are sweet. Unless you think it's revealing to much Intel haha look for the 20 second mark at the dorks on the right side of the river coming up stream.......their eyes opened up wide when we came around the corner, FYI to river boaters ....stay to your right like you driving down the street, it will help with head on collisions. You also get a glimpse of Hog Wally's sweet home in this clip at one point as I pan to the right but, at 48 mph it's quick https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRLigIFGYPo Smallieguy87 1

You're going 48 mph downstream around a blind corner . . . and its their fault for not staying to the right? ness and Flysmallie 2

I'll go back and try and spot his house as he Flys by. That boat is sick.
Old plug Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 you cannot tell the whole story from the video. I seen a lot more recless endangerment than that in the video.
Smallieguy87 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I'll be the first to say that I don't know as much about boat etiquette or who has the "right of way" on the water but I will say that the guy piloting the other boat waved so he didn't seem to peeved. My thought is maybe it would have been safer for the other boat to be on the outside of that bend so you can better see what's coming around then tucked more inside center....but hey I'm no expert.
