slab slinger Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Sent out looking today because of hear say that some were up in dade county and to my surprise it was actually true. We struck out in the timber but did manage to find a few around an old home place. It is a full sun area with 2 damaged elm trees. We didn't score a heavy haul but I was happy to find my source wasn't sending me on a goose chase with the cold weather we've been having. The shrooms were not in the best shape. Some were starting to dry and some brused and a couple just crumbled when touched. Only found 2 nice firm fresh ones. We all know the best is yet to come with the forecast predicted for the next 5 days they should be up good by next weekend I hope. This little find really gave me the shroom feaver early this year. marcus, ness, Johnsfolly and 2 others 5

Foghorn Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 We used to find wild asparagus along Hwy. 32 outside of Bismarck. Wife loves it and usually got poison ivy along with her asparagus and end up going to the Doctor. Not sure if it was worth the effort. Brother and several others found mushrooms in the last 2 days but no luck at our favorite spot yet.
MOPanfisher Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I am going to try to hit a couple places either this afternoon or maybe tomorrow afternoon for some morels, not very good at finding them but hey its an excuse to get out in the woods. As for the asparagus, I have marked a couple spots near me that I am going to dig up and transplant to my asparagus bed, since I suspect that is where they came from anyway. the birds love them little red berries and asparagus seems to pop up along my fence, under some lilac bushes etc. etc. slab slinger 1
jdmidwest Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I hit a spot yesterday that usually produces and did not come up with anything that looked like a fungus. I have friends that are finding them, but all in open fields. Another week or 2 before it gets serious for me, all mine are in the deep dark woods far from mankinds wanderings. slab slinger 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. MOPanfisher Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Yeah I don't any spots that are open/early either. Won't stop me from looking, good excuse to belt on the .22 pistol and wander around the woods for a while. marcus 1
