That bluff hole in the picture is a nothing special spot. Many many spots like it every mile or so. Who cares. Excellent post. Awesome fish. Good for you. And anyone that wants to waste a lot of time and money, go try to catch wipers on the meramec. It's a needle in a haystack fish.   Chances of a 9 lb walleye are way better.

I very rarely see anyone on the river anymore. Especially on the lower reaches which by the way for the most part suck  I joined this forum to learn about what others are doing and where.  Maybe I joined for the wrong reason?

You joined this forum so we would meet and now I have the brother I always wanted :) and then we formed the Stl 4 with Mitch and Paul and now are on the verge of breaking  out one of the best baits I have ever used to the public thanks to Mitch's extremely  high fish IQ and great technology ....you joined this forum ultimately  to team up with other great minds like your own to shock the world and we are about to do so......I'm talking  in circles. ...when the river goes down the let's go bro :).....I told you when you started  posting pics it might get silly didn't  I???

Only if you're fishing a "rouge"

Hey, I wanna be one of the St. Louis 4...but then it wouldn't be the St. Louis 4, would it?

I gotta admit, I was beginning to feel a bit uneasy about posting all the big fish on here. It's always a question of how much we should promote a spot by reporting catching a bunch of fish from it. Of course, the fishable part of the Meramec runs for about 175 miles, so it's not like we're promoting just one single spot. And it's a well-known river already. But that's one reason I post reports on the trips where I DON'T catch a bunch of big fish--kinda inserting a bit of realism.. Although I also think one can learn as much from "failure" as success.

Ah, well, it's off to our land on the Meramec today for me and Mary. The river is still unfishable but we're hoping for a mess of morels. (Or is it "morals"...I need some :) )

Spot on Al.  I guess there's a fine line between wanting to gain attention to the fishery I hope to better and over exploiting.  I would hope everyone realizes that I give a lot of half truths on my reports. The entire length of the river is good and I'm never gonna say where I caught said fish.

Sorry Al....the Grey Goose was nice last night....the Stl 5 and Al has to come to the craw hole and participate  in a group outing.....sorry I know your swamped with extremely  important  issues  right now Al so the inaugural ceremony  can wait.....my wife and I have been praying for your wife, hell even my daughter Emily has been. Hang in there bud, my wife is a cancer survivor  and she has recovered  from chemo to become a NP and runs marathons now.

It is the Stl 5 not the Stl 4......sorry......Al's presence I'd felt bigtime  from a far but, make no mistake  he is one of the crucial  parts of the 5 :)

I don't need to be a part of this boy band, however... I would participate in drinking the vodka.

Not to de-rail this topic further, but I always thought that I was the reason he joined this forum......  You too, Mr. Bigs, for that matter.................

Chief was the one who came up with this STL 5 stuff, not us?

3 of us had fun today making lures.

I know, the colors look pretty boring.

Hey Al, I have a new title for your next painting "Fifty Shades of Green"
