Bill Babler Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Kind of what RPS said. Switch to 5 pound Maxi on your spinning reel. Also never under any circumstance close the bail with the reel handle. The handle is for reeling in fish, not shutting the bail, While the Ned is in flight just prior to it hitting the water simply close the bail with your hand and your line twist and loops will no longer be a question. Members akaslyguy Posted April 23, 2016 Author Members Posted April 23, 2016 Thanks. I completely understand about closing the bail by hand each time. I've been using spinning reels a long time and was taught that way at a young age. However, this specific technique is something new for me, and I just wanted to ask about the only issue I have encountered. It really fits into my strengths (finnesse fishing). I really appreciate all the suggestions and knowing it's not an uncommon issue with these rigs. Thanks again. Joe

Could be, like you are saying, the bait isn't rigged on there straight. If I had a bait that was doing that a lot, I'd cut it off and try another. Could be bluegills jacking around with it, but you should be able to feel them when they bite it. This is a big part of it. Fish will fiddle with it, perch and bass. Even good ones when they are touchy. Three days is about my max before re-spooling. akaslyguy 1
magicwormman Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Try spraying your line with Line & Lure Conditioner. I use it daily with any lure that causes line twist. akaslyguy 1
magicwormman Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 This is another reason I like 10 to 20 lb.braid with a 6 lb. fluorocarbon leader tied with a albright knot. I tie a 6 to 8 ft. leader, as it goes throw the guides with that knot. This allows me to retie several times without changing me leader.
RSBreth Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 If you use superline/leader on your other rigs do it here too. I can't think of any good reason for old twisty on spinning reels anymore.

I have 5 lb. Maxima on the reel. I no longer have line twist, provided I get the worm on straight. I urge you all to rethink your equipment. Unimog Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I fish the Ned on a medium action casting rod as well. I'm still trying to learn to downsize my line though I'm using 10# fluoro.

Happened to have the same blank ad my 7'6" Ned rods built for warts/TW. I will never even consider it again. Spin rod, 6# to the bait, braid if you like going up. Not my thing but it works for some. Just change your line. The same spool of fluorocarbon won't last all year.
mixermarkb Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Hey Dave, give Sunline Sniper a try, and see if it lasts for you better than Invisix. I'm like Ham with his nanofil, on every thread even close to talking about line I mention it, but I like it that much. Really, really great line! magicwormman and big c 2
