Swimbait was still in place. lol I'm not a catfish expert. Channel? Wish we had actually weighed it. We were using the scales to hold him up for the picture. He was heavy, feisty and hard to handle. Bit the crap out of Champ188. He was fishing shallow around buckbrush, so I turned around and threw the swimbait towards the middle of the pocket where we had seen activity. Since they were down at the time, I decided to let the bait sink and slowly swam it just off the bottom. When the cat hit, my brain exploded for 2.3 seconds before I realized it couldn't possibly be a bass. Was fun, though. donna, did you switch to a different species to chase??? maybe you were just catching breakfast. bo shark bait, Donna G and Champ188 3
Donna G Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 This pic of the cat shows the size better. I promise he was fine and released safely, in spite of the blood. He had the hook on the outside (under his chin) and caused a little bleeding when removed. He headed for the bottom in a hurry when put back in the water. So, what kind is he? Donna G Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Quillback, congrats on the awesome day and sorry about hijacking your thread for swimbait heads and catfish pictures. If our day had been that good and there were more pictures of the right species, I would have totally started a new thread of our own. hehehe Muddy Water 1 Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915

Ham Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I was thinking the blood was Champ's. The worst bite j have ever taken from a fish was from a little Bullhead I was taking off a set line. I was trying to get a hook out of him without damaging him too badly. That nasty sucker clamped down on my left thumb with the speed and force of a rat trap. I swear I could not have been more surprised had it spoken to me. And it really, really freaking hurt. Good times. Champ188, Donna G and dtrs5kprs 3 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
