As if the water temp drops from 91 to 60 as soon as the sun sets. I strongly think tournament fishing at anytime during the summer months should be outlawed PERIOD! I've seen wayyyyy too many dead bass in my time from all the tournaments held in the warmer months. Having ice in a livewell only makes matters worst. Taking a fish from 90 degree water and dropping it in 50 or 60 degree cool water gives it a sudden shock that will either kill it or severely stress out the fish. They are not designed to go from one extreme to another extreme in temperature in such a short time. Then after struggling for hours trying to acclimate themselves to the cool water in your livewell, you end up throwing it back out into 90 degree water at the ramp after weigh-in. Now tell me that doesn't spell "Death" to a fish. Just because you see a fish swim off does NOT mean it will survive. Many bass will swim off and die many hours after release. I have woken up to a morning of dead bass all over the banks from a summer night tournament too many times. Sorry I don't really sugar coat my replies so if this offends you or hits you the wrong way, good. Stop fishing summer tournaments! All the more reason to measure them and throw them right back. Mike jones Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Sounds like you need to plead your case to the AGFC. I would wager a guess that more bass are illegally harvested than what you see dead at prairie creek the morning after a night tournament. From the way Beaver has been fishing this year, I really don't see a large impact on the bass population from any predators, bass tournament or illegal harvesting. So on that note, anyone who wants to come out and fish, our weekly Tuesday night jackpot will be out of Hickory Creek tomorrow night. Tournament hours are 6:30-11:00.

Beaver is an excellent fishery to support an amazing number of quality fish of numerous species. So it's ok to continue to run these summer tournaments and keep killing the bass because there is very little impact on the population. Basically, right? Just listen to yourself. Not trying to start a fight here, just trying to wake you up with some ice water and a baseball bat of sorts. haha. Terrierman 1

Or provide judges/officials on every boat to do the measuring and picture taking or something along those lines. Anything is better than a cramped livewell of 80-90 degree water. Terrierman 1
Mike jones Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 There is a 0% chance you are going to get judges/officials to ride along in every boat of the dreaded night or summer tournaments. Just isn't going to happen. This isn't Major League Fishing. And Mr Chi, if you honestly think we cool the livewell water down to 50 or 60 degrees, you must be smokin' something from Colorado. I think tournament organizations have came a LONG way in fish conservation over the years. As a matter of fact, check out these 2 pics from a couple Bassmasters Classics during the 70's. What do you think their live release % was back then???? Night tournaments have been going on for decades...Beaver also...and they aren't going to stop anytime soon. There is no way to have 100% catch and release success ANY time of the year..we will just do the best we can with what we have. Like it or not. Phil has a good idea but it must be perfected. Look at all the kayak cheaters that have been caught lately. Their idea of catch, picture, release has beought out those kayakers that find a way to cheat the system.

I was never a fan of tournament fishing, but if I had to choose one of the lesser evils, I'd prefer MLF's way of doing it over the traditional way. I'm not concerned about the pro's in their top of the line rigs. I'm more concerned about the weekend tournament angler in his cheap tracker boat with a half arse working livewell trying to keep fish alive for several hours. So you're looking at very poor survival rates upon release. Again, not all bass that swim away survive til the following morning. It's amazing how you notice you don't get 100% survival rate on bass released in the best of conditions, but yet you go out in the worst of conditions and do it anyways. I don't know what fun you see in that, but you have problems if you think it's fun to see dead bass floating around. I don't know what kind of money you make off the tournaments you fish or host, or what kind of stuff you're smoking from Colorado, but it sure must be some goooood stuff to enjoy killing bass and leaving them. But wait, we have a great bass population at Beaver, nobody will notice anyways, so what am I yapping about. lol. This is too much fun. Carry on man, we're gonna have to agree to disagree on summer tournament fishing.
Mike jones Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 MLF does have a great system..as a matter of fact, they were at Lake of the Ozarks last week while I was there. "You have problems if you think it's fun to see dead bass floating around." Seriously. What a darn stupid comment. Like I originally stated, if you have such a deep concern, take it up with the AGFC and get summer tournaments ban. Ive got an idea...why don't you show up at prairie creek this Saturday morning at the Everett team trail tournament and protest them having a tournament. There will be around 160-170 boats there. I'm sure that would go over well....
Jerry Rapp Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 lots of good points brought up. But bass fishing at most, if not at all, Ozarks lake is better now than it has been in 20 years. Especially Beaver. The CPMR, catch photo measure release idea is a good idea. No coverage? Phil covered that. What if a participant forgot to charge his phone and it died on him? C&R has made great strides in the last 20 years. I will guarantee you that more sub legal fish are filleted on private docks in a week than the amount of legal bass that die after a weigh in. The system in place seems to be working pretty good, and the MDC and AFGC have a thankless job no matter what they do. Champ188, Daryk Campbell Sr, RyanG and 1 other 4

I would be more concerned with this Lowe aluminum boat that has been loading the boat on the bridge pier here on Beaver but that's just me...someone needs to drop a tip to Bill Ruby. Vinsott Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Who is Bill Ruby? I will drop a tip if it will help do something.
