Just saw that a 13 year old girl drowned at Dawt either today or yesterday.

I cant even imagine.i guess their will be even more calls to fix the dam or tear it down.

Sad, for sure.

When looking for more info on the drowning, I ran across this wild story.

Yeah they never mentioned that one on the local news. I kept waiting for it but it never happened. These are the reasons I am nervous about taking my family floating.

Several years ago on the James I saw a lady squirt a guy with a water gun. He was pissed. He chased her all around a gravel bar swing a paddle at her as hard as he could while her friends just watched. As bad as I wanted to stop and intervene, I had two of my daughters with me so all I could do was paddle on by and hope somebody in her group grew a pair. It's truly sad the way people act out on our waterways.

And the reason I almost never float a stream serviced by an outfitter.

The river pimps will put as many johns on the river as they can.....it can cause problems for sure.....I agree with you and just used an outfitter for the first time in almost 20 years this Spring.....the stupidity I witnessed was enough for me, it will be another 20 years before or if ever I used an outfitter again

I have sort of followed some of the reports and on line outcry to do this or that to the dam.  Sadly anything that is going to be done whether fixing up or removing is going to have to go through a LOT of red tape with environmental agencies.  I don't like groups of people in places I float.  I don't mind a few good ole boys like me fishing, camping etc. but just don't like people well enough to mix with groups.  I floated the Niangua once with a group of youth from church, after advising them not to do it, they did the first year without me, and there were enough learning experiences for them that I went along the second time to be an overseer of sorts.  At the end I told them to never ever do it again.

Practically every ill of society you see in the urban areas you find on the rivers or in the parks. No one educates their children to respect others or to exercise control. I have been burned so often that I seldom venture out-side of the park areas without a group.
