Members Jess Miller Posted July 4, 2016 Members Posted July 4, 2016 We are going down to the Gasconade for a float trip this up coming weekend and this is my first time on that river. What kind of tackle would you recommend? I have done a ton of smallmouth fishing on big lakes in Minnesota lakes, but never on a Missouri stream so I really do not know what to expect. rps 1
Mitch f Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Topwater, jigs tipped with plastic trailers or tubes, Super Flukes, a few smaller crankbaits, and a few spinnerbaits. That's all you'll need. Jess Miller 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Daryk Campbell Sr Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Make sure you aren't floating in a raft. They will not allow you to bring fishing equipment. Rafts don't like sharp items is what I was told last weekend. Jess Miller 1 Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Seth Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 The water will most likely be up and dirty after this rain. I went out for a little bit last night and it was coming up and looked like chocolate milk. Chartreuse or red craw crankbaits, black or chartreuse single colorado blade spinnerbait and black jigs and soft plastics are what I'd be throwing. Then again, I haven't been doing worth a darn in the dirty water so maybe you shouldn't use anything I mentioned.
Greasy B Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I had hoped to spend next weekend on the Gasconade. I think I'll be shopping for a river that didn't get quite as much water. Greasy B Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Current river is one. There are a couple of other options but I'm holding my hand close to my chest. moodyfour Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Current had a pretty good rise on it. It will retreat quicker than others, but it rose 5 feet in two hours around Owls Bend. Had some friends lose their campers.
