Members rmokeefe1s Posted July 22, 2016 Members Posted July 22, 2016 I've always fished jigs, plastics, and jerkbaits for smallies and have had good luck. This summer I've fished a lot with walk the dog style lures and it's safe to say I'm addicted. So far out of the ones I've tried, my favorite has been a Strike King KVD. What's everyone else's favorites?

top_dollar Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Bill Norman Top Dollar....discontinued so they are tough to find. I may have bought them all. The hardware sucks, they need new hooks, and i custom paint (stock colors are ok though) and put my own feather on the rear treble....that said there is no other lure on the market that I am aware of with the same shape/profile/and action. It just has given me more consistent results than any other top water lure.

Gavin Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Like the LC Gunfish allot, and the Cultiva Zip n Ziggy, plus those already mentioned. Some work better than others on any given day. Always have a rod rigged with a walker. They work in Saltwater too. evilcatfish 1
fishinwrench Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 You'll drive yourself crazy trying to determine which WTD bait is "the right one". Pick the one that you like the looks of the most and use it exclusively unless you get sick of looking at it. I went through a 2-3 year phase of trying almost every brand/type on the market, but ended up right back to the Heddon's where I started. Wasted time and wasted money. Mitch f 1
evilcatfish Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 My favorites in no particular order: LC Gunfish, Lunker Punkers, Megabass Giant Dog X, LC Sammy Have a couple Duo Pencils on the way right now, I have a feeling they'll make their way in to the regular rotation

This is probably the most reasonable advice, get one you think looks awesome and stick with it. (as i have 4 stutter steps on the way...)
Members rmokeefe1s Posted July 22, 2016 Author Members Posted July 22, 2016 Appreciate all of the input. Fishinwrench- you're more than likely right. It's funny, I used two totally different brands, different colors, and totally different price range WTD baits this morning and wound up having my best day on the river to date. An 18, and 18.5, and a 16, all from the same about half mile stretch that I waded. I think I've got a new favorite river! evilcatfish 1
