I've lost count of the slams I've caught down there.  Brookies are always the hardest for me.

Now you're just being mean.

I've been fishing down there since the late 70's.  In that amount of time a guy gets lucky now and then.

It didn't hurt fishing with my dad and guys like John Gully, Dave Whitlock, Chuck Tryon, Ed Story and Chuck Davidson.  Many others too.

The true Golden age of the White River. You got to fish with some true legends of the area too. Lucky.

Yep.  My dad took me all over the country fly fishing.  He was voted into the Legends Hall of Fame himself posthumously at the Southern Council Conclave in Mountain Home a few years ago.

That's very cool Pete

Ham, sorry I missed you but I left right at 2.

I've caught a couple of slams there, but the brookies have never been much more than 6-7".

If I am remembering correctly, I had one Brookie I caught that was around 15 inches. I had another really nice one on that came off as I stretched my net out, and I caught a really nice one by hand that got stranded in a pool when the water fell out. I saved him from a tourist or a Great Blue Heron. The one yesterday was closer to 10 inches I would guess. I could measure the holes in the net and get a close guess.

They are typically much smaller than all the other trout. They only put 15000 ( or is it 10,000) in the river all in one bunch in October. The poor little things get loved to death (caught a whole bunch) since they are so aggressive and they are tasty snacks for large Brown trout. I'm sure its better than dumping them in the parking lot, but I'm not sure they are ever going to do all that great here.

I was at the ramp a couple of years ago when they dumped a load in. All were 5-6". Saw a nice brown snatch one up.  Guy on the stocking truck said they came from Greers Ferry hatchery.
