Marine Radio Emergency Channel

I have an old Humminbird walkie talkie type weather radio in my boat. I have never talked with anyone on it- but my question is: Does anyone MONITOR the "Marine Radio Emergency Channel" ? Yes yes we carry cell phones, I am only asking because I want to know.

Thanks for your input & not asking me questions like "why do I wanna know that, or why would you use that channel". Seriously, I just ONLY want to know.. LOL

Had a marine 2 way radio in my boat in Florida cause i ran off shore alot in the gulf and didnt have cell phones back then.....up here Nope

Try calling on channel 16 and see if anyone answers.  

You are permitted to make contact on that channel to test the operation of the radio.
