A few interviews with a couple of the guys fishing TR for the Costa event.  One guy from CA and one from FL, interesting to hear their perspectives.  Also an interview with a local guy.  I like hearing people talk fishing on this lake, pros or not.  I also figured out why they are coming from as far away as CA to fish this, regional winner will get an invitation to fish the FLW Cup.

Thanks for the link Quill. Watched an extra video they had up as well and none of them sounded optimistic about the weights being worth a crap. But we already knew that as it's been tough for 3-4 weeks now with just the reports here on the boards. 35lbs or less might win this deal.

These out of town'er shallow guys are in for a treat. The spoon'ers and drop shot'ers will probably do the best. I would bet someone from out West familiar with those finesse or deep water presentations will win. That or a more local person that isn't too proud to get off the bank.

If I was in this thing, and head 3-5 days to practice from sun up to sun down, and didn't mind burning gas, I would definitely search for deep bass haunts for spooning and the drop shot.  I think if you could find them and stay on top of them, you have a shot at a limit.  There's some decent large mouth out there too.

I liked the one older gentleman that said something to the effect that "he is going to fish how he likes to fish (shallow) and if he doesn't catch'em then he doesn't". Not sure how he well he typically finishes in tournaments but that doesn't sound like a recipe for success.

As tough as the bite is right now, the Ned might be a factor. I bet not many of these guys can fish that slow. We ALL know what that bait is capable of doing when the going gets tough!

Seems like up the rivers are the deal

There's enough of a shallow bite --- always is once the water temp dips to around 70 --- up in the rivers to catch 10-12 pounds a day if you know what to look for. And I'm not talking about dirty water way up the KIngs or James. I'm talking mid-White River arm on up to Holiday Island. I'm just not sure there are any big bites to be had doing that. Gonna have to cool down more for that to happen.

They did an interview with Jeremy Lawyer. He's from Sarcoxie. Good dude and great fisherman. I drew him in a regional on Sam Rayburn. He put on a clinic. Half way through the day I had zero keepers so I quit fishing and helped him however I could. He finished in second place. He catches them on every body of water he's on. That's when you know someone is a legitimate stick.

Nice of you to quit fishing and let him have a wide berth to catch all he could. I had a co-angler do that once when I was doing very well in a Central Pro-Am derby. I've also been on the other end of things, including one year in the CPA championship at Lake of the Ozarks. I put my rods up at 1 p.m. the last day and spent the last two hours getting my co-angler (an awesome guy) his limit so he could make a check. What goes around comes around, and I like to pay it forward when I can.
