There's always basketball season! I did NOT really say that. I KNOW I did NOT really say that! Champ188 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." I KNOW I did NOT really say that! Oh no you didn't! Come on now Vern, that is right out of the first page of KU playbook......wait til basketball season. Kinda like Obama's playbook is to blame Fox News for any of his shortcomings. Was having a discussion with my friends about the days of the Big 12. Hard to believe it's been 5 years now that we have been part of the SEC. While I understand the move (Football and MONEY...whats new) I just miss the true rivalries, more-so in basketball. No matter how BAD the Tigers have been, in any particular year, we always give you Jayhawks a run for your money on the hard court. Really miss those MU KU barn burners. Wish we could do a hybrid season where MU football remains in the SEC but the basketball switched back to the Big 12. SEC Basketball just doesn't do it for me, unless we are playing Mike Anderson's Hawgs. Tough times to be a MU Tigers fan for sure. Can only get better....I think.

That's good stuff right there and I don't care who you are! Believe it or not, I honestly wish we would still play each other in basketball AND football. The unbelievable thrill of the "upset" some of the times when we won in football made the other beatdowns all worthwhile. I gotta think there were a few times that MU felt the same in basketball. Winning when you're not supposed to have much of a chance is one of the greatest feelings there is in sports if you ask me. And that last KU-MU game in Allen Fieldhouse when KU was heavily favored and down to you guys by about 20 with under ten minutes to go only to barely come back and win is one I'll NEVER forget. Just one of many classics. I still think that MU would have won more games in basketball in the Big 12 this year than they will in the SEC even though the Big 12 is probably a tougher conference top to bottom. The reason is simply the old rivalries. When the students, fans and alumni care the players tend to care more too and it shows in their performance. Who cares when y'all play Mississippi State or South Carolina? Which is why MU - KU was always great - stats, records and talent just didn't matter. If people think that desperate times don't make you think weird, my brother and I have talked for the last few weeks about "what if" KU had scheduled another Rhode Island or two (think Delaware State!) instead of Memphis and Ohio how much better things might be looking right now. Of course we'd still suck but it would look so much better to have maybe won four games including the win over Texas (which we DO realize wasn't really THAT big of a deal - unless of course you're us). I, too, "understand" the move south but still think in the long run it's been and always will be a mistake. They might be making more bucks so far as conference payouts go but the loss of notoriety and relevance in Kansas City and throughout the midwest has to be hurting them in a lot of less tangible ways. In the Big 12 they always were and always would be SOMEBODY but in the SEC they're kind of Texas Tech. At least that's kind of the impression around these parts now. I mean even big, bad Nebraska is pretty much nobody in the Big 10 and everybody thought Colorado disbanded until this year. Nobody in the Big 10 cares what Nebraska "was" and the Big 12 folks care even less. Unfortunately, Oklahoma and Texas are probably going to keep screwing around until they destroy the Big 12 in a couple of years and then everybody's gonna look a whole lot smarter for bailing I guess but we'll all be less for it. abkeenan 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
