Champ188 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Try going a bit lighter on your line ... I like 8-pound P-Line CXX mono or 8-pound Maxima mono. Be sure and use green. Both are very tough lines that are stronger than a lot of people realize. What you don't want to use is fluorocarbon because it sinks and will pull your jerkbait down with it or cause it to sit at more of a nose-down angle than you want. That comes straight from Mike McClelland, who is as good a jerk bait fisherman as there is anywhere. Royal Blue, abkeenan and magicwormman 3
abkeenan Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I use 10lb Seaguar InvizX for my jerkbaits. I am very impatient and can not soak a jerker like some here on the forum that wait 30 seconds to even a few minutes between twitches/jerks. Most I ever let a jerkbait sit idle is about 5 or 10 seconds at most. Because of this I can get away with fluoro but if you are a "soaker" you gotta go mono.
Members Terrin Garber Posted December 6, 2016 Author Members Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks guys! I'll give this a shot! Throwing it on similar stuff as an A-rig? 15-35 ft deep trees?
Champ188 Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I throw mine on everything from dock corners to cedars to 45-degree banks to straight-wall bluffs to shallow-sloping gravel points. Depends on the conditions, the season, etc. I can tell you that you pretty much won't go wrong throwing it anywhere you'd throw a Wart, so long as you have a minimum of 2-3 feet visibility. It's possible to call one up out of 15-20 feet of water but 30-35 is getting a bit ambitious. Probably better to go with something you can get down there better, like the A-rig. abkeenan 1
Royal Blue Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Terrin, I use a minimum of 50lb braid on all of my A-rigs. Sometimes 65lb if I have it. No way am I gonna risk breaking one off in a tree if I can help it.

Light-wire hooks also can help you pull them loose from deep trees. Royal Blue 1
Royal Blue Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 No worries man. I suck at responding on here.
abkeenan Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 For my A-Rig'n I have 2 setups I use. One I use when fishing shallower and lighter rigs in which I use 20lb fluoro. When throwing heavier rigs and I am fishing deeper or an area where I am likely to snag in trees, I am using 65# PowerPro with a stouter rod. magicwormman 1

You don't suck and if I haven't already said so, welcome to the site. I just wanted to be clear that I wasn't suggesting sending one of those contraptions down into the deep blue on 8-pound mono. That could get real expensive, real quick. LOL crazy4fishin and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
