Anyone been on the White Recently?

Would like to plan a trip in the near future to the White River.  I use to fish there years ago and we always had rented a boat and they would throw a drag chain in the boat to slow your drift down.  I also remember it being fairly shallow compared to Taneycomo. My question, is my boat "to big" or sit too deep for the White?  Should I get a drag chain or will my troller be sufficient?   I have a 1860 Lowe Roughneck SC with a 50 hp Merc.  Sits very shallow but I'm always paranoid about lower units.  Also if you know anything about me, I'm going to be throwing some big baits for big browns.  What stretch/launch or area would anyone suggest to target bigger fish?  In the past we had fish at the confluence of Norfork and the White and had always caught a ton of fish.  I would have post this in the White River portion of the forum but I wanted a Taney fisherman's opinion on the boat situation.

Like your style Joe.  Can't help ya on the White info, but I too am going to focus on chasing big browns this year.

I've beat up a small bass boat with a prop on the White before... you got to be careful, and lucky.  Lots of water... no problem.  But even then you have to plan your exit strategy in case the water shuts down.

I would rent a boat before I would take my "lake" boat on the white.  Rent likely less than deductible on repairs.... As Phil said can be done if careful and plan an exit strategy if the water falls out.  The area I would fish this time of year would be either below the closed area at the dam or Rim Shoals.  Likely rim shoals....but your lake boat would be iffey below the first island.  I would suggest contacting www.rimshoals.com and see if they would cut you a deal for a multiple day rent, good place to stay good place to fish, good folks to help.  They can help in many ways, if you take your boat and low water they water taxi you to the island very reasonable. Or use your lake boat pretty good in the hole around rim in lower water but in my mind the better fish are usually around/below first island.Just my two cents.

We stayed at Rim Shoals and agree they are good people and great place to stay
