Ham Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I use the Alberto. Uni to uni works fine but it is a bulkier knot. a surgeons knot with three wraps instead of two seems to work pretty well but it isn't quite as good as Alberto IMO mixermarkb and grizwilson 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. dan hufferd Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I have never used nano, I use a double uni for braid to whatever.
LittleRedFisherman Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 +1 on the Alberto. I've had better luck with not breaking at the knot as much on snags using mono as a leader over flouro? May just be me but seems to wok better grizwilson 1 There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
MOPanfisher Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 When I get my knot done right the only breaks I get is is the mono leader right at the jig after a few tough walleye/white bass battles, and I forget to retie occasionally. If I do re-tie it no problems. If I don't do the Albright right then I will loose the whole leader at the join on a hook set, but seems like lately I am getting better at them.
Ham Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 How different is Albright from the Alberto? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
moguy1973 Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 How different is Albright from the Alberto? I don't think there is a difference. Same knot, different names. Has anyone tried the FG knot with Nano? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
shrapnel Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I havent tried Nano, but I have switched from the Albright to the FG knot for all my braid to fluoro connections and I can tell you that, with the Albright if I got snagged and pulled til break, the break was ALWAYS at the knot. Since going to the FG knot the break is ALWAYS at the lure. Ham 1
hoglaw Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I connect nanofil to floro or mono with a double uni. At first I was breaking off too much and didn't have much confidence in it, but now my break offs seem about 50/50 at the lure (almost always tied with a regular clinch knot or occasionally a palomar) or at the leader, which I think means I'm doing it right. I need to learn the alberto.

I never break the Alberto knot on fish though. grizwilson 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I never break the Alberto knot on fish though. It was extremely frustrating to learn, I actually tried it last year and gave up on it. Finally figured it out, you have to make sure you keep the main line TIGHT, and make sure you pull every wrap tight, you can tell as it's forming if it looks right or not. It is so thin I have gone to 6' leaders and will go a long time without the need for a new one. It flies through line guides almost unnoticed. MOPanfisher, Ham and grizwilson 3
