Members Todd in Rocheport Posted January 16, 2017 Members Posted January 16, 2017 Hi all. I am wanting to take my son fishing for tuna/redfish etc. I have been reading all these great things about Venice, LA. Has anyone been there, can you recommend a charter service. What are the opportunities for a self-guided fishing trip or fishing from the shore. I don't have thousands for guide fees unfortunately. Been following you all for a long time and appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks. Todd
Ham Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 There are opportunities for fishing from shore or small boats and kayaks inshore. Easy fishing when The Mississippi River is low and pretty. I would check that before you went. yoy might not wear them out, but you should catch a few fish. Offshore would likely require a guide. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Plastic_worm Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 If you want an alternative to hiring a traditional guide you might consider a kayak guide....less $. I don't know this guy but a few friends have used his service. Might be worth checking out. http://www.kayakvenicela.com/ Daryk Campbell Sr 1 YT - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5T_lKUH3gVkxSraJWUVzoQ FB - https://www.facebook.com/looknfishy Blog - http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/ IG - https://www.instagram.com/looknfishy/
PAT92B Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I just took a trip to Cocodrie La in October stayed at a place called Tradewinds this place had a restaurant bar and a marina with a boat ramp really nice place really cheap really nice people. Great fishing within sight of the boat ramp I took my 1655 Lowe roughneck didn't have any problem getting around or fishing out of it my cousin used his Towee wished I had a push pull a few times. The first day got a great guide Capt Rob DuPont he put us on trout immediately the then went after some bull reds and black drum had a blast. The next couple days went out on our own found trout early then reds later along the grass they are so much fun to catch like bass on steroids I'll be back. This was my second trip to Louisiana the first year I fished out of myrtle grove north of Venice seemed like a lot of private areas that you can't fish and a lot more fisherman and more expensive. I know there are charters for tuna out of Tradewinds I seen them come back with some big fish BilletHead, snagged in outlet 3, grizwilson and 2 others 5
snagged in outlet 3 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I've fished out of Myrtle Grove a few times too. It's almost setup in a way that you need a guide. I have friends that live down there and they know the area so we didn't need one.
