Mitch f Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Along time ago I asked Joe trout what was the perfect size boat for the Ozarks streams, he said 1650 flat bottom. I had a buddy with a tunnel hull and he didn't like it and went back and got a flat bottom "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Members Parkerhollow Posted January 28, 2017 Members Posted January 28, 2017 To the OP, there is not a jet boat made that tolerates floating weeds very well. Hydrilla mats will pretty much wreck your day with a jet, inboard or outboard. Mitch is accurate on the flat bottom, although I prefer 17' length to keep the guy in the back of the boats buzz bait out of my ear. And the nautical rule always applies, the width makes the boat. Always go as big and as powerful as your wallet and the water you want to run will allow while respecting common sense. For a first jet the recommended 60/40 hp on a flat bottom hull (blazer, alweld, etc.) would be hard to beat. Jacob McIntosh Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I have the 1752 blazer I use it to gig and fish the James with it love it if I was on a larger body of water more say if your boat is mostly a bass boat I might go with an 1860 I'd ask around I bought my boat at troutt and sons go talk with them tell them what you want to do and the will get you in the right boat.
Guest Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Im not going to buy a boat this year, but Im going to do my homework. Ham, maybe you can take me for a spin next time im over in your neck of the woods. I need to see how these operate before sinking money into one.

That is good thinking, however... the boats Ham and I run are 20 42 fiberglass trout boats, they will "float" more shallow that say a 1752 or 1848 Alweld or Blazer, but will not run on plane quite as shallow. That said when funds allow I plan on adding a 1752 or 1848 Alweld to my fleet, with the Tohatsu 25 jet (40/25) to stay under the HP limits on the 11pt and upper current. Likely will use Fred at Current River Marine. Troutt and Sons are good people just do not have the Tohatsu.... g Ham 1 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
