The true river strain fish grow to much larger size, but are not as numerous. Most Missouri impoundments over a period of years have been stocked with the lake species of the north , which really limits the potential fish size. The only places I know to target a trophy size fish are below the Powersite dam at Forsythe or some tributaries of Truman Lake from February to around the first of April. Mozingo and Smithville have some trophies too. I've caught 2 28's multiple 26's and my buddy a 29 out of Mozingo. I've also seen a few big ones floating . I'm determined to catch a 30+ out of Mozingo or Smithville.
MOPanfisher Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 There have been some good ones come out of LOZ, right below Truman as well, and a few nice ones from Truman lake. I think about every lake that has had walleye for several years will have some nice ones, its the number of them and how likely an angler is to catch them that is the difference. I may have had some on, but I normally fish with fairly light equipment and never saw or knew for sure what it was. Also at least one that I KNEW was a monster, turned out to be a heck of a nice Largemouth bass at Stockton, was never so disappointed in my life to see that dang thing roll up in my head light. dan hufferd 1

rps Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I have seen a14.5 and I have caught a 13.75 from the area near Holiday Island marina in the last 10 years. I have also caught a sauger over 5 pounds. These fish were not former river fish. The fishery is fine. dprice, wtr dogs and dan hufferd 3
bfishn Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Here's what a 15 looks like; To be honest, it weighed 14.98, but that was bled out. She tried to swallow a super rogue crossways and got both gills ripped. She was done for when I boated her. ... and that's all I got to say about that. MOPanfisher, Johnsfolly, dprice and 5 others 8 I can't dance like I used to.
Walleyedmike Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Guys, I am envious of those lunkers. Where did you catch yours bfishin? WM
