Basfis Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Ok, so between sub freezing temps and family time I've made it out for few hours a few times since Saturday. Mostly Indian point to 86. Had a strong jerkbait bite this afternoon, suspended fish not necessarily on cover. So, with clearer skies do they still bite some other technique? normally, I'd point a boat to dirtier water if there was sun showing. With that in mind, I've never tried to catch a bass by the dam with sun in the sky. Any tips? magicwormman 1
Sore Thumbs Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Not sure Table Rock is like Beaver but if it is there is sort of a golden rule to go by. Windy or overcast go to clear water. Blue bird or sunny go mid lake toward the rivers. magicwormman 1
Basfis Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 That's been my rule and my rig is in a slip in long creek thru Thursday. Trying to view it as a learning opportunity instead of a hindering. Is the sun the key to grub swimming?
Sore Thumbs Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 You got me there. Traditionally I'm a bank better but I'm starting to explore deeper water. I don't think it matters as much with those deeper fish. Weather doesn't affect them as much. magicwormman 1
dtrs5kprs Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 You can swim a grub anytime, regardless of sun/wind/clouds. Just have to figure out where the weather has them positioned. And sometimes the weather doesn't position them a bit, and they just swim where they want. Especially the brown fish. Biggest deals about the clear water are just slowing down, and going light. You can't whip the water to a froth in the lake and catch them most days. Lot of folks slow down, and still need to dial it back several more years before they have slowed down enough. That said, the grub/swimbait deal is still working. Seems like it needs wood. Also a fairly consistent Ned bite, up a little shallower and on transitions or isolated big rocks. That's what I've seen from recent pics that weren't posted. Guess the take home message is that clear water fish eat when the sun is out too. Just have to get used to how they do it. magicwormman, WeekendWarrior, RangerR82 and 2 others 5
Basfis Posted March 15, 2017 Author Posted March 15, 2017 Got out for a few hours today. Yesterday, all largemouth on stickbaits. Today all spots on a drop shot 30 - 40' deep. On the upside a couple were real footballs most were short. I'm looking forward to a different part of the lake. Hopefully Friday. Quillback, magicwormman and Sore Thumbs 3
Sore Thumbs Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 In summer time I love going to Cape Fair bridge with a drop shot. If you time it right you can catch a fish on every cast and they hit it on the fall. Fun stuff. Quillback, RangerR82 and magicwormman 3
