Members MOstreamer Posted March 20, 2017 Members Posted March 20, 2017 This past weekend I made my first trip of the year down to the Little Niangua at the Fiery Fork access. The campground near the river has been one of my favorites in the area, specifically the one site directly overlooking the river. Apparently someone thought the campground needed to be reconfigured. The one site that overlooked the river is no more. They've cutoff the road that used to be the main loop and added several spurs extending up into the woods. The new sites look like the standard state park type, consisting of just a gravel pad; I assume fire rings and picnic tables are on the way? Seems pretty disappointing considering the place gets a decent amount of traffic but is rarely full. Before long someone on a golf cart will be coming around collecting money. Also, why expand away from the river(the main attraction) and up into rocky, uneven ground in the woods... Here's a couple pictures for anyone familiar with the area:
Members delopez Posted March 27, 2017 Members Posted March 27, 2017 The little niangua is a great place for fishing, from what I'm told. I'll be hitting that up, this year quite a bit.
fishinwrench Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 It actually gets more deer season campers than fishing season campers, that would explain the campsites away from the river. If you want to camp right on the river there is a perfect gravel bar just 1/4 mile upstream. I saw bear tracks there several years ago, so be sure to take extra snacks.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 " I saw bear tracks there several years ago, so be sure to take extra snacks" Let me guess. Lots of water moccasins too eh?
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Why take away what was already there? Government can be so backwards. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
